LESS LIVE STOCK
IN THE STATE
AT THE MOVIES
"The Square Shooter," featuring
Buck Jones, will be shown at the Im
perial tonight. It is a lively comedy,
with opportunrty for a considerable
amount of daring horsemanship, and
some fairly clever situations. It is the
Iramat'zat'on of a breezy story of life
on a large cattle ranch in the west,
nd the many amazing incidents that
occur in connection with a case of
mixed identity. This makes it appear
thft the ranch owner's son. a timid
city-bred youth, is a dangerous char
acter, and that a real dyed-in-the-wool
cowpuncher is the rancher's son end
heir.
th government should take the mat
ter up at once. Further delay will
min losing a chance to be properly
taken care of, and in such an imnort
rnt matter as health, this should not
be allowed.

enraged efforts to sink the ship that

Sundav "The Miracle Man" return
for a second engagement. This is sa'd
and with some jutice to re the
best motion pictuve that has ever been
presented in the city. The cc-rtral fig
ure in the story is a patriarch in a lit
tle village who possesses the power to
heal the sick and maimed. Ton
Burke, a New York gangster, and h'Y
pals scheme to use him as means of
enriching themselves. With this v'ew.
they visit him and 'are astounded to
discover that his power to heal is ab
solutely bona fide. How the good that
lies latent in the crooks is brought out,
is the theme of the drama which is
one of the most striking yet produced.

THE RED CROSS CORNER
Some little criticism has been made
of the Red Cross because of the fact
that a number of hospital garments
bearing the Red Cross emblem were
found for sale in the general market
of the country. This matter has been
ingestigated thoroughly and it is ex
plained as fonows:
When the Red Cross left the army
areas after the armistice it donated
all its hospital garments and articles
to the army. As the army hospitals
were abandoned and salvaged, the
various supplies were collected in
warehouses, which were in turn sold
to France, entire warehouses being
turned over to the French government
without any inventories. For this rea
son these articles are finding their way
into our own local markets, but since
the investigations were made the mat
er has been taken up with the French
government and will soon be stopped
entirely. '
An announcement is made to all
teachers of Box Butte and South Sher
idan counties that the local Red Cross
otTice in Alliance can . furnish them
with pamphlets put out through the
Junior Red Cross by the department
of education in Washington relating
to studies in Civics. Some of these
pamphlets contain suggestions for
courses of study in Civics beginning
with the first grade taking it tiirough
the eighth grade. Others are entitled
as follows:
"Civic Education in Elementary
Schools."
"The Teaching of Community
Civics."
"Social Studies in Secondary
Schools."
"Civic Education."
Those pamphlets are all very good
and the Red Cross urges strongly that
they be used in teaching the children
what being an American really means.
We will be glad to assist you in this
matter if you will call u; on us.
During the month of December the
local Red Cros office handle 1 seventy-six
