Railroad News
A special train went through Al
liance last night carrying the vice
president of the C. U. & Q. railroad.
He has be-n on an lnnpectloii tour
extending from Hillings to Lincoln.
He is going straight through to
Chicago. With him are the general
manager, the general superintendent
and a number of directors.
Sam II. Pink was severely Injured
last Tuesday afternoon. He was rent
ing on a tie and carelessly left his
right hand across the rail. Some cars
standing near were moved down a
bit and before Mr. Pink could reali
what was happening the forger pait
of his hand was cut off.
Engineer Newberg is reported lo
be quite ill. His place Is being filled
by Engineer Magnuson.
Miss Sturgeon Is filling the varan
cy left by Mrs. Leveda Fleming as
chief clerk In the dispatcher's office
The following firemen are off for
a few days on their vacations:

also been promoted to a larger ma

P. S. Abar, a drill press operator
in the shop, left for Kansas City a
few days ago to see his father, who
Is very sick.
Plreman II. A. Wilson Is forced to
lay off for a few days on account of
an attack of grippe.
Hostler Helper Leonard Pate and
William Williams, bollermaker help
er, are going to Denver for a few
days' vacation before they start
back to School.
Piremaji C. H. Cox Is reported
under the weather.
Boilermaker Helper Robert Law
fence is leaving Monday for Tabor
nasli, Colo', to visit his uncle before
he starts back to school. He expects
to spend a few day In Denver too.
Brakeman L. E. Hlchardson and
wife are in Hot Springs, S. D., for a
few days visit with friends.
Brakeman Wilbur Ellis left last
night for Palls City where he will
tend to some personal business.
Conductor A. J. Ward is laying
off for a few days to tend to some
business.
Brakeman A. Hudklns was lak"u
trick at Edgemout yesterday after
noon. Brakeman Bigers deadheaded
to Alliance to relieve him.
Conductor G. F. Dill has returned
to work after being sick for several
days.
Brakeman Widman returned to
Alliance yesterday after spending
eeveral days visiting with his mother
in Denver.
The wrecker was called out laat
Tuesday morning to pick up some
cars which were derailed in the west
end of the yards. Derailment was
caused by a defective Journal. Forty
four waa delayed for a short time
until this could be cleaned off the
main line.
The roundhouse and all shop
buildings have Just received a new
coat of paint.

days.

Machinist J. T. Curran and Wil
liam Clancy returned Tuesday from
a few days visit in Denver and other
pointi.
Mrs. H. G. Muler, who has been
visiting relatives In Qulncy, 111., will
return to her home In this city Sunday.
What could the state do with all
the money if every automobllist who
exceeds the speed limit, parks on the
wrong side of the street and does any
of the many other forbidden things
