the sale of the Albert Magnuson 160
acres, two miles east of Berea, to T.

$60 per acre, which is mighty good

General Pershing will arrive in
Lincoln the day before Christmas,
and after a ten-day visit with his
two sisters in that city, will begin a
tour of Inspection which may include
Fort Robinson. If It does, there is
every chance that Alliance will have
an opportunity to see one of the
chief figures In the recent world war.
The Community club has received no
further news concerning their invi
tation to the general to visit the-city,
but a definite decision is expected
soon.

One Box Butte county man re
ports an instance of the demoralized
train service due to the recent
storms, the fuel shortage and pos
sibly other things. He left Berea
Monday evening and arrived at Bay
ard, forty miles distant, in exactly
twenty-four hours.

The city council will hold a
special session next Monday evening,
when it will consider an ordinance
making provision for the paving of
upper Box Butte avenue, from
Fourth to Tenth streets. The paving
district has already been formed, but
it will be necessary to pass an ordi
nance on the subject.

Contractor Henry Roberts, who
has the contract for the road work
between Alliance and Antloch, will
leave the end of the week for his
home in Denver. Road work has
ceased for the winter, and will not
be resumed until spring and better
weather conditions arrive. The men
have been laid off and the grading
machinery stored on nearby farms.
Mr. Roberts expects to return to su
perintend operations when they be
gin again.

Carrol Nichols, engineer for the
Grant, Fulton & Letton company of
Lincoln, expects to leave today for
Lincoln. Mr. Nichols has been, in
charge of the city's paving and seVcr
construction. He will not return! to
Alliance, having made arrangements
to start In business for himself but
the first of the year, as soon as J he
finishes up his work with the Lincoln
concern. He already has several at
tractive contracts, the first of which
will be at Dalton, Neb. .

William Grant of Lincoln, con
sulting engineer of the Grant, Fulton
& Letton company, which has the
contract with the city for the storm
and sanitary sewers, was in Alliance
Wednesday, coming here from Ra
venna to inspect the progress of the
work. Mr. Grant left Wednesday
evening, expecting to return within
a few days. Eight years ago, Mr.
Grant made the surveys and blue
prints for the city's sanitary sewer,
and at that time, having a vision of
the growth that the city might ex
pect, planned and made blueprints
for tho storm sewer which is now be
ing installed. He is greatly im
pressed with the growth Alliance is
making. Eight years ago, he pointed
out, the land to the east of the big
slough was not even surveyed. No
one had any idea that the city would
ever extend to it, but indications are
that within the next year at least
150 houses will have been completed
in that district.
