The first woman member of the

whatever comfort we may desire
from the fact that the lady is of
American birth, being Lady Astor, a
later of Mrs. Charles Dana Gibson.
Parliament has behaved very hand
somely and has allotted her a "bou
doir sitting room" and Indicates that
she may have a library, tea, reading,
dining and smoking rooms In addi
tion. We trust that she will prove

from Montana.
The latest news In the coal situa
tion Is encouraging. The govern
ment has served notice on both soft
eoal operators and miners that pro
duction must not be Interfered with.
Present production Is estimated as
only 40 per cent of normal, which
means that there will soon be a seri
ous shortage unless prompt measures
are taken, and this the government
proposes to do. Miners willing to
work will be protected by troops if
necessary, and If this is done It will
be only a short time until all the
miners are back at work, whether
they are satisfied with the 14 per
cent increase or not.

John Henry Render was born In
Holateln, Germany, September 29,
1841, and died at Alliance, Novem
ber 24, 1919, aged 78 years, 1 month,
27 days.
He was married on February 27,
1864, to Dorothea Arendt. Six chil
dren were born to them, four boys
and two girls. One girl died at the
age of ten.
He Is survived by four sons and
one daughter, John Henry, Jr., of
Wayne, Neb., Fred W. at Thermop
olis, Wyo., Herman and Julius and
Mrs. Helen ClausRen, all of Alliance.
Funeral services were held from
the home Friday afternoon, end were
conducted by Rev. Mearl C. Smith.
The body was laid to rest In the Al
liance cemetery. Six grandsons were
pallbearers.
