D. C The bureau f Crop estimates has made public the following report on the potato crop, based on conditions existing on September 15, and Indicate any change that has occurred since the September 1 report. The next quali tative eMImate will be issued the frs part of October. Maine. Aroostook has a good nop, though It bas lacked soi.'.e rain. Digging began earlier than usual and th crop Is moving rapidly, over 1,56 cars already have been shipped compared with about 300 at this date last year. Some rot, due mainly to beating and continued wet weather, baa resulted, but Is expected to cease as Boon as qool dry weather comes. No change In yields. Only a fair crop In other counties. New Hampshire. Coos county has a light crop, with no change since September 1. Other New England States. Con siderable rot is the general report: and it will doubtless destroy a con siderable part of the crop. New Yerk. In the Northern coun ties there has been an improvement due to pood rains. The same is true In Steuben county in the Southern part of the state and in Rensselaer county, East of the Hudson. The aD sence of frost will also help to in crease the yield. Rot, however, con tinnes cn Long Island and prospects there have declined since last month There is also some rot in other coun ties In the Southeastern part of tr tate awd in some near the center of the state. In the etate as a whole the gains about counter-balanced the losses. Ohio. Reports of September 1 from the more important potato pro ducing counties indicate that, due to timely tains and seasonable weather the commercial late potato crop has (mnrnvod since September 1 to an extent varying from "slightly bet ter" in section of Huron and Medin- counties to a "25 per cent gain" in parts of Ashtabula County. Michigan. The potato rroRpect has declined rapidly during the past 16 days in every part f the state. Showers have occurred but were in sufficient in amount and were of only temporary benefit, so that the ground la now even drier than before. Som ectlons report a very light Betting of tubers, others a more plentiful settin but very small in size, and the only possibility of a crop would be the Ihi nedlate advent of soaking rains fol lowed by at least two or three week of warm weather without frost. Th dawn re from frost so far has been confined to very small areas on low grounds, but light and leafhoppers re dolna much Injury In some see Hons, otherwise the vines are gener Uv green and reasonably thrifty Ono shipper in Presque Isle county reports actual tests on grading th crop as follows: No. 1. 20 per cent: No. 2. 0 ner cent: culls, 4 0 per cent. The best authorities estimate for the dff'-rent sections from less than (ft to 70 per cent of a crop, with an verare around fiO per cent' for the entire commercial potato area of the tate. Wisconsin: The commercial pota to prospects on September 15 In the central heavy producing sections of the state, have been improved some what over the first of September, due te beneficial rain which fell during th r"'Mi of lsst week. Nebraska. The condition of the Nebraska commercial potato crop was slightly over 50 per cent of nor mal September 1. There has been very little If any change in condition to date, as the slight deterioration the dry land crop has len coun ter-balanced by some improvement In the irrigated sections. South Dakota. There has not been much change In this crop from September 1 to 15. There are many Artificial Eye. Iowa. Commercial potato crop prospects in Mitchell county Septem ber 15 were the same as September 1; same other counties. In Mitchell county 50 per cent harvested, quality 90 per cent. Farmers are reported selling freely. About 50 per cent cars shipped this year as compared to last year. Colorado. In the Greeley District the crop is in bad shape, due to shortare of moisture at planting time and all through the season so far as both rain and irrigation water were concerned. The result was poor stands in the first place, and later more or less abandonment of acreage planted, and around 25 per cent less acreage planted. Estimates range as low as 25 per cent of last years crop. The above applies to the real commercial acreage near Greeley. The small acreage under irrigation in the Flatte Valley In Morgan, Iog an, and Sedgwick counties is Bllghtly better. The plains or a dry land acre age is In poor condition, largely a failure. There will probably be lit tle or none for shipment, and It Is doubted of this section will raise enough for home consumption this season. In general other districts are In fairly good fihape but smaller acre age with the exception of the San Luis Valley which has Increased its acreage considerably, and besides has one of the best potato crops it has enjoyed. Conditions are consid ered as fine as could well be expect ed. About 1,100 cars of potatoes have already been marketed from the state this season. This is considered heavy early shipment. Here agai" i the San Luis Valley Is in the lead j Owl Drug Store in Kansas City the other day.
