Hulen, former AntJoch pot ash magnate, is the head of a new 12,500.000 Colorado corporation.. Joit formed for the purpose of re epenlng ilver mlnrs in that state. In Hlnndale county, Colorado, con siderable Interest is being tbown In the re-openlng of mine of the silver rroperties that made tLat section famous. Probably none will be matched with more Interest than the Golden flee-, four miles up the lake Fork from Lake City. In the early seventies a surveyor, Enoa Hotchkfus, strolled from the amp by the shore of Lake San Crls toval up a gulch to the west and failed to find the source of this, which was one of the highest forms f tellurium with gold and silver, nd later sold his ch-iui for a trifling mount. Considerable prospecting was done before the real deposit was found then something around 13,00,000, of which about two thirds was silver, was pulled out be fore a depth of 300 feet was reached, nd the Golden Fleece was counted one of Colorado'! bonanzas. One day a round of shots that usu ally means a thousand dollars or more showed an entirely different formation and, as was discovered later, the ore shoot had faulted, and nothing but a coarse agglomerate appeared. Work stopped. The U. S. geological survey made an Investiga tion of the workings. Last September I F. Hulen, tecured a lease and option on the Fleece and began an effort to find the old bonanza and to work the thousands of tons of low grade ores f the dumps. He rebuilt the old mill and installed the latest appli ances for treating by table concen tration and oil flotation methods. The result so far have been of such a nature that a corporation capitalized at $2,500,000 has taken over the proposition of the Golden fleece and in addition, the Hind electric power plant Plana are already complete for de velopment of all holdings on a large scale by a board of directors compos ed of Colorado and Nebraska busi ness men. Among the Denver direc tors are L. F. Hulen, B. B. Snyder, J. D. Mallon. F. A. Slade, A. B. San lord, R. M. Shearer and W. H Lawrence Large stores of material and sup plies have been ordered. A com plete local electric light and tele phone equipment is already , on the ground, and a large warehouse pur chased a large interest in a Colorado Alliance people have recently pur liver mine and expect to profit hand' omely by their investment. The big feature of the day was the monster clambake under the big tent. At 7 o'clock in the evening the Reiallites were served a piping hot 'bake" of the most approved type with all the "fixins." It was a novel meal to many of the share holders from the Southern and mid dle States as well as the West and they enjoyed it immensely. Keep watch for warty potatoes at digging time and report all suspicious cases. Box Butte county so far has been entirely free from this disease, which is one the most dangerous diseases of Irish potatoes and which has been discov ered in some parts of the United States. Rough, spongy outgrowths of varying size are produced on the tubers, especially at the eyes. These warts are light brown at first, but bceome black and decayed with age. Sometimes all potatoes in affected hills are worthless. The disease does not attack the vines above ground. Western Nebraska has in the past been practically free of serious potato diseases. It can be kept so by carefulness and watchfulness of the growers. Also, the operating cost and use of wires involr fd in handling a long distance call for a particular person is much greater than for a message where the person will talk with anyone answering the tele phone called. A lower rate is now offered to telephone users who place long distance calls for anyone at the tele phone wanted rather than for a particular person. A "report charge" is made to cover a portion of the expanse we incur when a long distance call is placed but which is never completed. NEBRASKA TELEPHONE COMPANY Statement No. a.
