TnE ALLIANCE (NEBRASKA) HERALD '-vc
STAND FAST!
A report Is being circulated, the
onrce of which wi re unable, to lo
ste, to the effect that Recruiting
Stations throughout the country are
to be closed.
The local Recruiting Station has
been advised by the main office at
Omaha, that this rumor Is baseless
and that they have not been advised
f any such proceedure.
There never has been a time In the
klstory of the United States Army, or
njr army, when men were wanted
more than at this time, especially
7oung men who are ombitlous, who
are willing to take hold of an oppor
. tnnlty when offered, who are looking
for training along special lines. The
emergency Just passed has changed
the Army greatly and the govern
ment is now conducting schools In
almost every section of the country
and along most every line. Men are
wanted for these schools patriotic
jnen real men. .
Very recently, the local Recruiting
Office received notice of authority to
enlist men In the Quartermaster
Corps and the Medical Department
for one year. No previous service
ecessary. . Rartlcular mention was
made for service In the Medical De
partment at the base baspital at Fort
Pes Moines, Iowa. Both the Quarter
master Corps and the ' Medical De
partment are non - combatant
branches of the service, but what
two are more Important? If you
feel that way, you can do a power of
good In either branch, particularly In
the Medical Department The Ser
geant in charge of the local Recruit
ing Station has spent much time as a
visitor at the base hospital at Fort
Pes Moines and Camp Dodge, Iowa.
II came from Dcs Moines to Alli
ance. No! we don't believe recruit
ing will be stopped.
Anyone placing credence In the
Jisejess rumor, will not only enlight
en themselves oy paying a visit to
if local Recruiting Office, but do
our government justice and aid in
the finest business in the world, and.
Indeed, service in the. United States
Army is the World's finest business.
A vlalt to the local Recruiting Office
will prove both pleasant and profit
able, for you will learn what our
government It doing for lt'a men.

Staterooms.
There was an old fellow named
Shreve who ran steamboats before
Jackson fought the redcoats at New
Orleans. In Shreve's time the cab
ins were curtained off Just like these
new-fangled sleeping-car berths. The
old man built wooden rooms, and be
named them after the different states,
Kentucky, and Illinois and Pennsyl
vania. So that when a fellow came
aboard he'd say: "What state am I
In, Cap?" And from this remark the
name stateroom has spread all over
the world.

Announcing an Agency for
the celebrated
ERLAND
AUTOMOBILE
I have taken the agency for the fam
ous Overland automobile for Alliance and
vicinity and am in a position to give pros
pective car buyer a real automobile value.
The Overland, Model 90, has no equal
in the light car class; it has no superiors at
the price and it does offer more honest
value per dollar invested than any other
car on today's market.
I have a demonstrator now on hand
and am expecting a big shipment at once.
You'll find me located on Third street in
the building formerly occupied by the
Weaver Garage. Call and see me; let me
show you a car wonder the Overland,
Model 90.
