combustion In this causes a serious
fire hazard, rnd unusual care should
ho cvrclsed by the owners of such
properties The hazard can be re
duced hy proper select ion of the
graile and sizes of soft coal, anil the
exercise of proper precautions In its
handling and storage.
Where large quantities of soft coal
are stored in the open It should be in
sepatale piles, so that a fire starling
will not spread through the entire
supply, and -the affected pile ran be
extinguished or moved. Where I lie
coal is stored In basements the Fuel
Administration suggests the follow
ing precautions:
1. Coal the site of a walnut or larg
er Is well adapted for storing.
Mine run, slack or screenings, on
account of fine coal and dust, an
not suited for storage In a base
ment. N'eei place coal near a hot pipe,
against a hot furnace or any
other hot surfr.ee.
3. Do not mix ashes with the ool,
as there may be live coals In the
ashes.
4. If coal must be wet down, wet
only the portion that Is to be
used Immediately.

During the past nlnty days the
Department or Publicity has iwnt oot
more than 3,000 copies of "Nebraska
Facts" to residents of eastern state
who are turning their eyes towards
the new and prospering west. And
the director of the department has
answered more than 1,500 letters
from recipients of the booklet who
wanted to know something more -bout
school and church facilities In
Nebraska clt lea named in their let
ters. During the year the department
has sent out more than 2,500 bullet
ins on the potash Industry of Nebras
ka, many of them to Great Britain,
llawalan Islands, nnd the provinces
of Canada.
