COMPANY G ROUNDS UP THE GAMBLERS i Number' of Promotions !; i, l Tcmiii Wins Hull Came from m .m ti of the Fifth Camp Cody. N. M.. Sept. 4 That Company O is an effective police and guard organization as well as a splendid company of soldiers is evi denced by the fact that not long af ter the company was placed on guard duty they successfully raided a gamb ling Joint and rounded up some six teen gamblers, all of whom were con victed nnd assessed fines of $10 and costs. The gamblers were all civil ians. The raid on the Joint was headed by Sergeants Mattox and Le Roy. Company G won its first base ball game which was played with Company G of the Fifth Nebraska. The score was 13 to 4. Baseball equipment of all kinds is needed. The team has no suits whatever, at least baseball suits, and a short sup ply of balls and bats. Those "back" home who are long on these necessi ties in the game or who have a little money they can chip in for the cause will receive the hearty thanks of the boys A number of promotions have been made in Company G, the promotions being as follows: To be sergeants Kolzow. Shannon, Joder and LeRoy. To be corporals Fred Wilson, Den ton, Wykoff, Phillips, Austin and Ab raham. To bo first-class privates Grove, llaynes, Heath, Jull, Knolton, A. Klemke, Langley. O'Donnel. Wil liams Cahill and Penning. No trouble was experienced with the colored troops stationed here, but all were glad to see them moved, for trouble at most any time would not have been surprising. Buff Harbaugh of Scottsbluff has been recommended for discharge be cause of n bad scar on his leg which makes it difficult for him to take part in the hikes. The sum of $108 has been received by Captain Miller from Aliancel folks and has been placed to the credit of Company G's fund. The money will be used to the best advantage and every cent of it will be accounted for. A special account Is kept of the com pany fund anil every dollar received Into the fund must be credited, and every dollar spent must be charged. The account is audited once each month by the battalion major. A portion of the company funds was spent for tubs, wash boards and oth er things, for when the company ar rived here there were no facilities witli which to wash clothes. The Bombers of the company, every one of them, appreciate the interest be ing taken La them by the "folks back home."
