FAVOR SALE OF
' SCHOOL LANDS
Senator Robertson of Holt County
Gives Kca.sons Why Mtate i.cnoN
Should He Hold
Says a glass of hot water with a teaspoonful of
limestone phosphate in it washes poisons
from system, and makes one feel
clean, sweet and fresh.
"Why is man and woman, half
the time, feeling nervous, despon
dent, worried; some days head
achy, dull and unstrung; some
days really incapacitated by ill
ness. If we all would practice the
drinking of phosphated hot water
before breakfast, what a gratify
ing change would take place. In
stead of thousands of half-sick,
anaemic-looking souls with pasty,
muddy complexions we should see
crowds of happy, healthy, rosy
cheeked people everywhere. The
reason is that the human system
does not rid itself each day of all
the waste it accumulates under
our present mode of living. For
every ounce of food and drink
taken into the system nearly an
ounce of waste material must be
carried out, else it ferments and
forms ptomaine-like poisons in
the bowels which are absorbed
into the blood.
Just as necessary as it is to
clean the ashes from the furnace
each day, before the fire will burn
bright and hot, so we must each
morning clear the inside organs
of the previous day's accumula
tion of indigestible waste and
body toxins. Men and women,
whether sick or well, are advised
to drink each morning, before
breakfast, a glass of real hot
water with a teaspoonful of lime
stone phosphate in it, as a harm
less means of washing out of.
the stomach, liver, kidneys and
bowels the indigestible material,
waste, sour bile and toxins; thus
cleansing, sweetening and puri
fying the entire alimentary canal
before putting more food into the
stomach.
Millions of people who had
their turn at constipation, bilious
attacks, acid stomach, sick head
aohes, rheumatism, lumbago,
nervous days and sleepless nights
have become real cranks about
the morning-inside bath. A!
quarter pound of limestone phos
phate will not cost much at the
drug store, but is sufficient to
demonstrate to anyone its cleans
ing sweetening and freshening
effect upon the system,
Lincoln. Nebr. State Senator
John A. Rohertson of Holt county Is
a strong advocate of the Bale of the
school lands belonging to state of
Nebiaska.
Senator Robertson made the fol
lowing statement to The Alliance
Herald representative relative to the
school lands of the state:
The law taking these hinds off the
market was passed in 1897 and all
leases drawn slnco July, 1897, have
had the option of purchase removed.
The reason for the passage of the
law was the loss of a large amount
of the permanent school fund
through the defalcation of the state
treasurer and no legal provision at
that time for the safe investment of
the permanent school fund.
Since then the laws hnvo been so
changed that the state treasurer is
required to keep the permanent
school fund invested in 5 per cent
bonds of school districts and munic
ipalities and it can not be lost as it
was at that time and the income is
certain and definite. The only ques
tion is "otate landlordism" or homes,
for the people. The landlord is now
receiving about 12V4 cents per acre
for his land and he is paying no tax
while the average land owner is pay
ing about 20 cents per acre tax, thus
you see that Instead of the school
land being an asset it is a liability
under the present system. Here are
the factB as shown by tho reports of
the state auditor and the commis
sioner of public lands and buildings.
The state has 1,650.990 acres or
2,579 sections of school land and re
ceives $207,935 per year rental or
about 1 .'. ' per acre. If these lands
were on the tax list they would pay
at least 8125 per suction or $322,
375 in taxes, or $114,440 more than
they now pay for rental. The land
lord might raise the rent and we
might pass a landlord's lien bill to
enforce the collection of same but
even if we would go the limit we
could not get one third as much rent
as we would get If the lands were
sold and the money was drawing 5
per cent Interest. These lands if
sold now in the present era of high
prices would bring from $15 to $100
per acre and they would not be sold
as the lands In the eastern part of
the state were sold but would be sold,
to the highest bidder. If these lands
were sold at the low valuation of
$15 per acre, we would have 1,650,
990 times 15 or 24,764,850.
5 per cent interest on this tempor
ary fund 1,238,342
We now receive rentalB . . . 207,935
We lose each year 1,030.407
We lose taxes at 125 por sec. 322,375
We lose int.. tax each year 1,352.782
or more than six times as much as
we receive.
This has been going on for 20
years and will continue as long aa
state landlordism without taxation
continues aB no lease system has ev
er been Invented that would equal 5
per cent.
How long do you want to continue
this robbery of the school children
and taxpayers of the state for the
sentimental privilege of saying, "We
own the school lands.
