Mellor, for eleven years secretary of the etato board of agriculture, was dislaced thru the election of E. R. Danlelson of Polk coun'y. Tho defeat of Mr. Mellor eamo as a surprise to Mr. Mel lor and his friends, altho Mr. Mellor learned of the contemplated action after the fair managers banqurt tho previous evening. Tho charge mado against Mr. Mel lor by some of those who wcro op posing him was that he is dlctartor lal and that other state fair officers have found it difficult to work in harmony with htm. These charges were Indignantly denied by Mr. Mellor. On his way home from tho fair managers dinner at the commercial club in Lincoln Mr. Mellor was in formed that a meeting of members of the fair board had been held and that It had been agreed to make a change in the office of secretary. It was suggested, It Is understood, that Mr. Mellor step down from the office of secretary gracefully and accept a place on the board of managers. Mr. Mellor would not agree to tho pro gram outlined. Mr. Mellor, while at tho meeting of fair managers the night before had marvelled that but few mcm-j bers of the state board of agriculture were present. He learned on the way homo that they had been meet ing at the Llndell. Mr. Mellor has served as secretary of the stato board for eleven years. His salary now is $3,000 a year and Mr. Danlelson will receive that sum for his services. The vote by which Mellor was de feated was 42 to 30. Peter Young ers nominated Mr. Mellor and E. R. Purcell of Broken Bow nominated Mr. Danlelson. There nro twenty-nine members of the state board. The largo vote, 72 votees b"lng cast, Is accounted for by the fact that representatives of coun ty fair associations ore allowed a voice In tho proceedings of the state bonrd of agriculture.
