ance one day last week and sold a
fine piano to Mrs. Ike Woods. The
Instrument was delivered Saturday.

Mrs. F. W. Mellck. Mrs. Earl Roc-
key and Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Rockey
are some who were in attendance at
the Sunday school convention in Al
liance recently.
Rev. and Mrs. Brown spent Fri
day and Saturday in Alliance. They
were In attendance at the Sunday
school convention and visiting with
friends. They returned Saturday.
Dr. and Mrs. McEuen are taking a
much-needed rest and vacation at
present camping at the Yellowstone
Park. They started overland in
their auto the latter part of the
week.
Word comes from Rev. and Mrs.
Palmer from Chicago that they are
enjoying their vacation, notwith
standing the hot weather. We hope
to see them return very much bene
fitted by the rest and outing.
Frank Lahr of Lincoln visited at
the Deaumont home a few days last
week. He left on 43 Friday for the
Yellowstone Park to join his wife
and family, who are sojourning
there. Mr. Lahr is a brother-in-law
of Mrs. Beaumont.
' D. W. Butler was taken with a
hemorrhage of the nose on Tuesday.
For a time the condition looked pret
ty serious. He was hurried to bis
home in Alliance by auto. The lat
est reports are that he is doing nice
ly. We hope to see D. W. around
again soon.
Mrs. Merle Johnson, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Woods, arrived
from her home in Iowa last Wednes
day for a visit with her parents. Mrs.
Johnson has visited here several
times before and has a host of
friends who are pleased to have Id-i
with them again.
Mr. and Mrs. Hull and daughter.
of Angora were over-night guests of
Mr. and Rupert Walker Sunday
night. They were enroute to Hot
Springs, So. Dak., for a week's out
ing and rest. They resumed their
Journey Monday. Mrs. Hull is a sis
ter of Mrs. Walker, and visited here
for some time last summer.
The fellow who on the first trip
out with a Ford drove up to a gate
and said, "Whoa," and the one who
after running his car Into the ditci
said, "Come out of there," are not in
it with the one who drove his auto
truck up In front of a store and tied
it to a hitching post with a rope.
That was a mean trick, George.
The Tom Christy minstrels played
to a crowded house here Tuesday
night. Mr. Christy is a comedian of
unusual ability and far above the av
erage comedian, adn Is supported by
a good company. The crowd which
greeted them here Tuesday evening
speaks more for the Christy's than
any words of ours could, as this is
the second time he has visited our
town In this capacity. The crowd
and encores must have been very
flattering to Mr. Christy.

H. E. Rhodes (Dusty), who was
city edit r of The Herald for a num
ber of months and who went to Ok
lahoma last December, has accepted
a position with the North Platte
Semi-Weekly Tribune, starting there
on September 1. Dusty'a experience
with Nebraska climate and people
while at Alliance was so favorable
that he has returned to the state to
"live and die."

Mr. and Mrs. L..F. Leavitt and
son Ira expect to leave in a few days
for an extended visit with friends in
Paris, III. They will go by auto
route.
Mrs. C. J. Wlldy and Mrs. Brad
Fenner with their Sunday school
classes picniced on the river one day
last week. They all report a very
enjoyable time.
Mr. and Mrs. George Baker and
Mrs. M. Greene autoed down to An-
iloch Sunday and spent the day with
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnson, return
ing the same evening.
Jack Malcolm, foreman of the
tank gang, left here Tuesday, going
to Oakland to Join th other boys,
who left here Saturday. They have
a contract to erect a large tank at
Oakland, Nehr.
We are glad to state that Miss
Nettle Uhrig who was operated on
for appendicitis at the St. Joseph
hospital. Alliance, recently, is doing
nicely. Her many friends are glad
to hear of her recovery.
Mrs. 11. R. Olds and daughter
Frances left on 44 Sunday for the
eastern part of the state where they
will visit friends for a couple of
wokn. afier which Miss Frances will
euter school at Hastings for the year.
The gain; who have been working
on the hi ?i water tank for the Bur
lington at this place finished their
work here Friday and shipped to
Oakland. Nebr., Saturday. The boys
made n any friends during their stay
here, who were loath to see them
leave.
Mr. Erwiu living on the old Good-
enough place met with quite a heavy
loss when his cow barn, several loads
of grain and quite a considerable
amount of grain burned. The origin
of the fire is unknown but It is
thought it was started by one of the
children who were playing around
the barn.
Mitchell's baseball aggregation ar
rived here Sunday for a game with
the local team. The day was very
disagreeable but both teams put up
a fine game. The score was 3 to 0
la favor of the home team up to the
last half of the eighth inning, when
a couple of small errors by our boys
let the visitors score two runs, tieing
the score. The ninth was a shutout
for both teams and Mitchell scored
one In the tenth, giving the game to
the visitors. The Mitchell boys are
fine fellows to meet and made a
number of friends here by their gen
tlemanly conduct while here. Come
again, boys.
