WANTS"" A DIVOKt i;
IlKl FA I II GROWING PAYOR.
"Cosmopolitan," that's the word.
A big fair, the interest In which i
not confined to one small locality.
but reaches from the fertile fields of
the Iowa and eastern Nebraska corn
belt, to the broad prairies of Sou tit
Dakota and the sand hills ronek
country of western Nebraska that
gives but an intimation of the Inter
est that is being taken in the thir
teenth annual fair of the Inters tat
Live Stock Fair Association, which
is belug held at Sioux City this week.
September 20 to 25.
This is practically a state fair with
an interstate patronage, It has beest
a great success with increasing Inter-
eat as the years go by. How n.ucfc
it has benefitted the lire stock Inter
ests of the middle west it would b
hard to accurately estimate.
There are a number of reauon
why the Interstate Live Stock Fair
has been a great success, a few cf
which we wish to mention in thia
connection. First and foremost i
the enterprise and foresight of th
management. In traveling around
over the middle west, one finds that
Sioux City business men have th
reputation of being "live wires". Ibt
looking over the lest of names of of
ficers and directors, one finds that it
contains many of the leading busi
ness men of Sioux City and neighbor
ing towns, as will be seen by the fol
lowing roster: F. L. Eaton, presi
dent: L. L. Kellogg, vice pres.; W. S.
A. Smith, second vice pres.; Joe Mor
ton, secretary; A. T. Dennett, treas
urer; L. W. Mallory, M. L. Flinn, T.
A. Black, W. J. Downey. II. O. Mc
Millan, Torn Dealtry, W. H. Back,
Goo. G. Moore, Dave Davidson, W. Pi
Grandy, all of Sioux City, and R. M
Cassidy, Whiting, la.; J. A. Shade.
Kingsley; J. Sundberg. Whiting; J.
Walpole, Rock Valley; Payne Sargla-
son, Luton; Ralph McElratb, MoviU.
The location of the fair Is such M
to make success possible. Sioux City
Is the center of a splendid farmlor
and stock raising country, compris
ing part of the three states of Iowa.
Nebraska and South Dakota; besides
it is accessible to a prosperous rune a
country in Nebraska and South Da
kota, lying beyond what is comruon
ly looked upon as being the agricul
tural belt.
Another factor, and not a small
one by any means, Is the enthusiastic
support given the fair by the citizens
of Sioux City who are not olUcuilly
connected with it. Many a public en
terprise has come to un untimely end
or dragged out a worse than useless
existence because of some persons
who ought to have been boosterc be
coming knockers. If there are any
knockers within the bounds of S oux
City, we don't know where to litid
them.
A number of other contributing
causes of the success of the Iuer-
state Live Stock Fair could be
ed, but to mention one, more will vf-
tice ror tne present, and mat is me
locution of the fair grounds. Wood
land Park, the home of the fair, i an
ideal place simply lovely durlug
the summer and early autumn. Per
sons who wish to take a short vaca
tion or a week's outing, find thi i a
tine place to camp. Those wh do
not wish to camp will find it plea i at
to spend a few days at the fair a:., "I

city, between which and the park .u.i.

A petition for divorce was tiled In
the district court Monday by Carrie
A. Kennedy, who asks that she be
separated from Jesse A. Kennedy
and that her maiden name. Carrie A.
Anderson, be restored. The plain
tiff sets forth that thety were mar
ried at Vancouver, Wash., and that
they moved to Box Butte county
about two yeurs ago. On March 31,
of this year, the petition states, the
defendant wilfully and maliciously
grabbed the plaintiff by the arm and
hand and gave such a vicious jerk
that these members are stilt in a sore
condition. It states further that the
defendant has refused to support the
Plaintiff since their marriage, and
that he has on numerous occasions
called her vile names.

"Good enough for everybody, not

key to Its popularity. Modern, fire

Some Chilly Weather
The weather during the past few
weeks has been about as varied at
one could imagine. The days have
alternately been cool and warm,
with the accent on the "cool", for oa
some of the mornings a great many
inhabitants have bad fire in their
heating stoves. One result of the
varied condition of the weather is
that both men and women are find
ing more use for handkerchiefs than
for tome time. One man on the
street yesterday was heard to say, "I
dever had ady idea tbad I could ged
such a cold at this, ad I'b going right
bobe ad take a dose of salts."
