Mrs. J. M. Schlrk went to Lake
side Sunday to spend the summer
with her mother. Mrs. J. A. Hun-
zlker. Mrs. Schlrk has Just been dis
missed from the hospital.
Pale Rlnesby, of Mlnatare, and
Margaret Hassenstab, of Scottsbluff,
came in Monday for a visit with Miss
Possie Cunningham.

the week of the 24th to 30th. to as
sist County Agent Seidell In taking
the farm record.
Ed Wlldy was down from Hemlng-
ford Monday looking after business

Wlllard Myers, second man at the
Plerks Lumber Company here, went
to Calloway last week to take the
place of the second man there for a
few days. The second man at Call
oway was called to Sargent to take
charge of the yard at tbr.t place
while the manager Is on his vaca
tlon.

Dierks Lumber Company, came In
the first of this week from Broken
Bow to Invoice the local yard
L. II. Jay and family drove
through from Rolf, Nebr., the first
of this week to attend the conven
tlon. While here they will also vis
it with relatives and friends in the
country surrounding.
Miss May Brownell came in Tues
day from Hay Springs to visit with
Miss Cora Bishop and to attend the
convention.
Miss Genevieve Fort, of Marsland,
came In Tuesday to spend the week
with Miss Verna Rodgers and other
friends.
F. H. Smith, Antloen postmaster
and merchant, came over last Sunday
to look after business matters and to
visit with friends. He returned home
Tuesday.

Children's Day was observed at
Antloch last Sunday with a special
program rendered at the church, and
along the south side of the building,
from front to rear, which Is a great
Improvement over the old board
walk. The second floor of the build
ing will be used as office rooms.
The curbing and guttering in the
first three Improvement districts
that is, districts 1, 2 and 3 was
completed Tuesday night, and the
force Is now working on district 6.
The contract for districts 4, 5 and 6.
Is still pending, but the city will
probably advertise for bids soon. It
is probable that there will be created,
one or two more districts.
Among those who came In from,
Bingham Tuesday to attend the con
vention were F. M. Ullbaugh, J. T.
Burton and family, Sam Edmonson,,
and Joe Sellers and family.
Mrs. E. E. Lang came In Tuesday
from Council Blufl's, Iowa, for a visit,
with her sister, Mrs. C. L. Bennett.

turned Tuesday from Lincoln where
they had been for several days visit
ing with relatives and friends.

Mrs. J. Atz entertained the choir
of the Christian church at her homo
on West Second street last Thursday-
evening. A fine time was enjoyed.
Secretary Fisher received a call at
1 o'clock Tuesday morning that the
llanklnson auto polo teams bad ar
rived In Crawford, and asking him to
come to that city and pilot them to
Alliance. Mr. Fisher started at 5
o'clock, and the bunch got into Alli
ance shortly after noon Tuesday.
U. B. Kibble and wife came In
Sunday from York for a week's visit
with bis brother, E. T. Kibble, and
family. From here the former will
go to Hot Springs, S. 1).. where Mrs.
Kibble will take treatment.

An Ordinance providing for the
levy and collection of a License Oc
cupation tax upon certain occupa
tions and business carried on in the
City of Alliance, Nebraska, regulat
ing the same and provid'ng penalties
for the violation of Fame. Be it or-
ance by the principal of each and all
of the trusts Imposed by law or by
usage attached to pawnbrokers.
Section 2. All persons who shall
be engaged In the business of pawn
brokers, dealers In second hand
goods, or junk dealers, shall keep a
book in which shall be legibly wrlt-

Section 1. That every person, firm
or corporation engaged in the busi
ness of pawnbroking within the said
city of Alliance, shall pay to tne city
purchase, an accurate account or de
scription, in the English language,
of the goods, articles, or things
pawned, pleJped or mortgaged or
jmrcnaseu, me amount or money
treasurer for a license to carry on loaned or paid therefor, the time the
sum was received, and the name, res
idence and description of the person
pawning, pledging, mortgaging or
selling the same, which book, as well

bankrupt stock or from any other
person doing business and having an
established place of business In said
City of Alliance. Provided, furiun-,
dealers In scrap metals, except poi i
and silver, shall not be Included in
the provisions of this ordinance. That
no such goods, mortgaged, pledged
or purchased by any pawnbroker,
second hand goods dealer, or juiik
dk-'Hkrs, shall be sold or removed
from the place of business of such
perbon for the space of twenty-four
hours after the copy and statement
required to be delivered to the chief
policy officer shall have been deliver
ed as required in this ordinance.
Section 4. Every broker, agent
or dealer mentioned In the foregoing
sections, who shall violate, or ne-

Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Curran came In
Tuesday from Lincoln to visit with
their many friends here and to at
tend the convention. The Currans
lived In Alliance before moving to
Lincoln.
Mrs. M. J. Comes came In from
Bingham Tuesday for a week's visit
with her niece, Miss Evelyn Comes.
Mrs. John Spracklen returned to
her home at Chadron Tuesday after
a visit here with the F. M. Russell
family.
Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Leaning came
In last Saturday from Bradsbaw,
Nebr., for a visit with her brother,
F. M. Russell, and family.
Mrs. Rex Gambel departed Tues
day for La Grande, Oregon, where
she will Join her husband, who went
there several weeks ago to hunt a
location, and where they will settle.
The city of Crawford is having its
own troubles these days. Just now
a number of the citizens are "sore"
at Mayor Hungerford on account of
his actions in the Percival-Henry
case, in which the mayor took the
case into his own bands and meted
out Justice. Their other trouble
pertains to the city streets. A num
ber of the citizens are agitating the
oiling of the streets, while the city
prefers paved streets. Verily, every
town has troubles of its own.
An Item of importance which was
overlooked last week was the reftn
Ishing and improving of the Reddish
block on the corner of Second and
Box Butte. In addition to the build
ing itself being thoroughly overhaul
ed, a concrete sidewalk has been laid
Mrs. Leishman and children came
to Alliance Tuesday to attend the
convention.

Frank Palmer visited Alliance on
Tuesday. He said be was going to
enter two saddle horses in the
races.

Sunday at the Palmer ranch the
pitching bull again threw his rider.
Frank states that he is upholding his
"rep", as the bull has never been rid
den. He also states that he is going
to stage an affair at Broncho lake
the 4th of July.
Claude Rennau arrived in the city
Tuesday to remain until today.

Claude Heywood of Gordon came,
to the city in his car Tuesday.
E. A. JefTers received some new
plumbing material Tuesday.
Aleck Underwood was the pur-,
chaser of a six-cylinder Reo Satur
day. Clark Rice and family visited Alli
ance Tuesday.
Lucile Butler in a free-for-all race
won a large doll, given as a prize by
"Bud" Betzold, on Box Butie ave
nue, Tuesday.
J. M. Roberts, curbing contractor,
departed Tuesday for Lincoln, to at
tend a family reunion. There are
seven sons in the family, three of
them living at Lincoln, and the par
ents, who live in Florida, are there
at present, visiting. One of the sons
will come from Walla Walla, Wash.,
and another from Florida to attend
the reunion. Mr. Roberts expects to
return to Alliance the first of next
week.
