Mollring "The Store of Quality'' SMOKER HELD MONDAY NIGHT Fair Number of Commercial Club Member Were Present at Monthly (Hub Meet There was a fair sized attendance at the onthmly commercial club smoker held at the city hall Monday evening. The question of a gas plant for Alliance was discussed. It Is believed that the special commit ( tee appointed by Mayor Rodgers at a council meeting a short time ago will make a favorable report soon. After some discussion, a new set of by-laws for the club was adopted. The paving proposition was discuss ed and talked on by C. II. Draney of Denver, the paving expert. I A petition to the county commis I -loners, asking them to put In a test , well for irrigation by pumping was presented to the club and approved l by them. I Tickets for the annual club ban l quet, to be held Monday March 1, will be on sale at the drug stores, barber shops and Commercial Club . oUke. Members of the club are urg ed to buy an extra ticket and take along a member of the Junior Com mercial Club, composed of boys at tending the high Bchool. A complete report of the receipts and expenditures by the club for the past ten months, as well as the work done, will be presented at the ban quet. This will also contain the , new by-laws adopted at this meet ( lng. Following the meeting the club I members were guests of the fire de partment at their home in the city hall at an athletic entertainment. Wrestling and boxing were enjoyed for more than an hour and it is but i fair to the firemen to state that their . work was better than many contests I which have been put on in Alliance at high prices of admission. There are a number of athletes in the fire department who are made of good ' timber and who will make their mark in this line if they continue in ' it. They at least keep themselves in good physical condition by keep ing up their athletic work, i A feature which was not on the program but which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone was a boxing match between Secretary Fisher of the club and Chief of Police Jeffers. The men were stripped to the vest, sixteen ounce gloves tied on, and they boxed under "Markis of Kings bury" rules. The fight lasted three rounds, when it was stopped on the grounds of humanity in other words, the contestants were so out of breath by that time that they had to be supported by their seconds and the door had to be kept locked to keep them from escaping. The three rounds were fought without Inter mission. After, the match was over the janitor collected three quarts of i vest buttons, lost by the spectators who burst their vests laughing at ' this feature of the entertainment. ' Fisher distinguished himself by his I footwork, leaping clear over Jeffers at times, while Jeffers was noted for his tremendoua right and left swings which if they had landed would have put Fisher clear into the middle of ! next week. The fire boys received the thanks of the guests for their in teresting entertainment. and were the guests for the day of their friends Mr. and Mrs. Ike M. Shrlner at their home in Orange Villa.
