This will be done without resort ing to the unpopular expedient of paying a bounty for the pelts of th troublesome animals, which has beets proposed in other legislative sessions but never became a law. The bill will make it the duty of every land owner In the state to kill off all gophers and prairie dogs in habiting his acreage, before Novem ber 1 of each year. Should this duty be neglected It will then become lh duty of the road overseer to go upon the land and exterminate the ani mals, after giving thirty days' no tice. For this work, the overseer is to be allowed $3 per day and his ex penses for buying poison or other suitable material or apparatus to ac complish the end in view. An item ized list of his fees and expenses must be kept. When this Is filed with the county clerk, accompanied by a proper affidavit, that official must enter the amount charged against each piece of land upon the county tax lists, and it Is made the treasurer's duty to collect It the sama as other real estate taxes. Where the prairie dog or gopher nuisance exists on state school lands the amount of expenses and fees shall be certified by the county clerk to the state auditor, and the latter will thereupon draw a warrant upon the state general fund In favor of the county where the service was rendered. Where the nuisance Infests a pub lic highway, the work done In killing off the animals will be charged up to the county general fund. If on a corporation's right-of-way, the- cor poration will have to pay. In the case of Irrigation or drainage canals. the cost will be assessed to the abut ting lands. Public parks will be rid of the creatures at the expense of the authorities having Jurisdiction over them. Where privately owned land Is un occupied, and in the cases of state school lands, corporation rights-of-way, canals and parks, the road ov erseer need not serve notice In the regular form of his Intention to go upon the land and destroy the ani mals, but need only post notice to that effect. Notice to lUddera " The board of county commission ers of Box Butte County, Nebraska, will receive bids for the lease of the county farm, same being the north one-half of section 17, township 25, range 48, until twelve o'clock noon of the first day of February, 1916.
