Work of Club, May, June and July
The Directors have held twelve
regular meetings and ten special
meetings.
Three banquets have been held,
ai'd seven noon-day luncheons for
the members have been given.
There has been an average attend
ance at the banquets of 120, and at
the noon-day luncheons the average
has been 24.
Increased the membership from
74 to 329 with funds from f 1,680 to
$6214.
Managed and carried out the most
successful Stockmen's Convention
ever undertaken in Alliance at a less
expense to the Alliance merchants
than ever before.
Have had with us A. E. Anderson
and Trof. C. W. Pugsley of Nebras
ka University to explain the Farm
Demonstrator movement.
Adopted the budget system, thus
putting the Commercial Club on a
permanent business baste.
Have completed copy of a pamph
let advertising Dox Butte county at
a cost of $349 and no subscription
papers have been passed asking for
subscriptions.
Paid all the expenses of the Dec
oration Day exercises.
Have secured Prof. O. E. Condra
of Nebraska University tor a meet
ing this fall showing the develop
ment of western Nebraska.
Held two special meetings against
the action taken by the postmaster
general regarding our new federal
building. Since that time we have
been assured that the building will
be erected as promised.
Met with the City Council and
submitted a petition asking them
to install an additional water tower
and to take a new census of the
city. The latter has been acted up
on and shows that Alliance has a
population of 6100.
Have already secured four con
ventions for next year and three for
this year.
Held a clean-up day which result
ed in a cleaner city. Another is be
ing planned for this fall.
Asked the telephone company to
consider the proposition of putting
street addresses after each name In
the telephone directory, this having
since been carrie dout.
Mailed a letter to every auto own
er in Alliance asking them to dis
play an Alliance pennant.
Sent to the State University the
names of every farmer living in Dox
Butte county. They will receive
free literature from time to time.
Opened an employment bureau
which is free to every one, and found
employment for 94 men and 9 wom
en. Every business man who is sup
porting the Commercial Club and
boosting for Alliance iB known by
the membership frame which is
hanging in his office.
Took the matter up with the city
council regarding keeping the main
streets clear of rubbish.
Had a Commercial Club day at
the Chautauqua.
Working on plans to extend the
White Way from 4th to 5th street on
Box Butte avenue.
Have secured 2700 lines of free
advertising outside of Alliance pa
pers of what the Alliance Commer
cial Club is doing and our own pa
pers up to date have published 6400
lines of the activities of . the club.
This is more free advertising than
all the Commercial Clubs Alliance
has had within the last three years.
Started a farm department in the
Commercial Club.
Was instrumental in starting the
free band concerts and the band Is
receiving financial support from the
club each month.
Out of nine advertising and char
ity schemes that have been present
ed to the club for approval only two
have received the endorsement of
the club, thus saving the business
men time and money. If you want
to save money and time don't sub
scribe for any of these propositions
until it has been investigated by the
Investigating committee.
Was instrumental in securing new
waste baskets on the main street. No
advertisements of any kind will be
allowed on them.
Through the help of our members
we have furnished autos for three
conventions up to date.
Started the refund plan whereby
those who live twenty miles or more
from Alliance will have their fare re
funded. Started plans for a Commercial
Club building and up to date over
$3000 has been subscribed. Papers
all over the country are commenting
on this building project and Alliance
is being cited as the livest town in
the western part of the United
States.
Planned and carried out the A rat
silo demonstration trip ever held in
Box Butte county. It was also the
most successful trip of its kind ever
held in western Nebraska.
We are now receiving proposi
tions from landscape architects re
garding the laying out of a perman
ent park on the ground purchased
some years ago by the city.
Had the first "Seeing Alliance
Trip" ever held in city.

copy for the different papers and
magatines telling or what the club
Is doing.
We are now preparing copy for
two eastern magazines concerning
Alliance and what her Commercial
Club Is accomplishing.
Furnished during the Stockmen's
Convention rooms for 90 people free
of charne.
Civic Committee
Helped in the clean-up day cam
paign. Secured new waste baskets.
Asked the council to adopt a curb
ordinance.
Have started plana to Improve the
park ground.
Have taken the matter up with
city reardlng the cutting down of
Box Butte avenue between 7th and
9th streets.
Expect to see that the tree ordin
ance la enforced next spring.
Have arranged for more hitching
posts for the farmers.
Advertising Committee
Issued 20000 pamphlets advertis
ing Alliance and Box Butte county
at a cost of nearly $400.
Alliance for the first time is now
being shown through the West in
the movies.
Arranged for a. display of Box
Butte products In the Burlington of
fice at Chicago and also the depot at
Alliance.
Have made plans to erect a large
sign five by thirty feet advertising
Alliance and Box Butte county.

This committee has been one of
the most active of all and two new
roads leading into Alliance have
been completed and the county com
missioners are now grading the Hay
Springs-Rushvtlle road to the county
line, and the commissioners from the
other counties are now Improving
the roads as a result of our activity
and cooperation.
The county commissioners of Box
Butte county have purchased twenty-four
road drags and same will be
distributed through the country.
Entertainment Committee
The Entertainment committee has
been unusually busy having charge
of three banquets and seven special
dinners. The next big banquet will
be the boys' banquet, and every man
attending will have to be accompan
ied b ya boy.
Farm Pern nostra tor
This committee had charge of the
silo and dairy trip and nearly 1000
circulars have been sent through the
county telling of the work the farm
demonstrator is doing in other coun
ties. It is expected that a campaign
will be started soon to raise funds
for this work and that Box Butte
will have a farm demonstrator by
January 1. The government gives
$1200 each year for this work and
the Burlington $3 for every mile of
road she has in the county. It will
take an additional amount of about
$1600 to start this work.
Membership Committee
This committee holds the state
record for securing new members,
and they expect to tackle the few
hard nuts that are left within a
short time. On May 1 Alliance had
74 members today she is close to
the 330 mark. Let's every one help
by securing a new member. Watch
those membership frames and sup
port the men that are boosting your
city let the few that are refusing to
boost Alliance know that they are
losing out by slaying on the outside.
Convention Committee
ThiB committee has done good
work, and so far has secured more
conventions for Alliance than she
has ever hud the pleasure of enter
taining in one year. Keep your eye
on this committee and get back of
them and help boost for more con
ventions.

Two More Conventions for Alliance
Through the Influence of Rev. Ti
tus Lang and Secretary Fisher, the
special conference of Lutheran pas
tors of Northwestern Nebraska and
Wyoming will meet in Alliance, Nov.
10 and 11. This makes the fifth
convention that the Commercial
Club has secured since May 1.
The County Sunday School con
vention which was held at Hemlng-
ford July 29 and 30 voted to hold
next year's convention at Alliance.
A very interesting meeting was held
and the attendance was the largest
in years.
Commercial Club Employment
liureau Doing Good Work
Since July 25, the Commercial
Club has found employment for 22
people, and the farmers and ranch
men surrounding Alliance are mak
ing good use of same. Not only is
the employment bureau bringing the
farmer into closer touch with the
good work the Commercial Club is
doing in Box Butte county, but the
recent silo trip shows that the farm
ers were appreciating what the club
is doing for the development of this
country.
Commercial Club Ilulldijur
One of the features in connection
with the proposed construction of a
commercial club building at Alliance
is mat the club Is figuring that the
building can be made a community
house, and while it takes care of the
commercial clu band its membership,
it will also take care of Y. M. C. A.
work and such features in connec
tion with the club, saving the dou
ble expense of two organizations and
buildings. It will be kept In mind,
it the club house is built that the
farming community will have both a
direct Interest in It and it will be
made available in many features for
their accommodations. The plans
of the Alliance club, as they are be
ing watched with much interest by
other cities, that from time to time
realize what it would mean to them
to have a permanent club home.'
