HOW CHILDREN GROW
Children grow by nourishment not
overloaded stomachs or rich foods but
qualities thst are readily converted into
hfe-sustaining blood; too often their
digestive powers cannot procure these
qualities from ordinary foods which results
in weakness, dullness and sickness.
If your children are under-size, under
weight, catch cold easily, are languid,
backward, pale or frail, give them Scott's
Emulsion which is pure medicinal nourish
ment. It sharpens the appetite, builds
healthy flesh, firm muscles and active
brains. Scott's is growing-food .'or
children. Refuse alcoholic substitutes.

not be without them in the house.
Some time ago I suffered severely

HERALD REACHES
ALASKA WILDS
'Gene Heath, Former Well Known
Itok Uutte County Newspaper
' Man, Heard from Again
Tbe following is furnished by F.
M. Broome, who received the paper
spoken of.
Twenty-five years ago 'Gene Heath
one of the widest known newspaper
men that ever published a paper in
the western states at that time, pull
ed out from Box Butte county with
his family on a schooner drawn by
four small mules. His destination
was toward the setting sun with no
particular location In view. During
all of these years he was lost to
sight altho not lost to memory of
many Nebraska friends and now
there comes drifting thru the post
offices a copy of the "Mail" publish
ed at Ketchikan, Alaska. No name
appears on the paper to Indicate who
the publisher may be and none is
needed for all that any one of his
old friends need do is to read the ar
ticles published and they, know that
it is the same 'Gene Heath whose
writings in the early days of the Grip
compelled people to read them whet
her they wanted to or not but gener
ally they wanted; to. Among the ar
ticles in the paper received, dated
July 11, 1914, the following will
prove of interest:
One ent tled. "Back in the Old
Days," reads:
We are In receipt of three copies
of the Alliance Herald, published at
Alliance, Nebraska, by John, Lloyd
and Carl Thomas. Alliance and Box
Butte county was our old stamping
grounds 25 years ago and many of
our old associates In crime still live
in that locality. What interests us
most is a natural cut of our old part
ner In the newspaper business, F.
M. Broome. Frank is running for
the legislature, and accompanying
his picture is his declaration of prin
ciples or running platform. We
should like to help him out if we
could, and will state that in those
days he was honest and true, but
midst the cruel battle of 25 years,
the unceasing tussel for biscuits, we
wonder whether ho has remained
true and good like we have.
Another one entitled "The Call of
the Wild" Is a literary gem and
reads as follows:
Last Wednesday forenoon, during
a howling southeaster while the sea
gulls screeched their defiance and
tbe hardy fisherman, In bis oil skins
and sou'wester, gazed off toward the
hurrying clouds, Ed Walker, Mrs.
Walker and Gaston, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack McGraw and Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Otto (daughters and sons-in-law) in
a happy cheerful frame of mind,
packed their camp outfit in the little
launch and hiked out on a picnicing
excursion. Crazy? No no more so
than ti . rest of us. It's "the call of
th9 wil l:-' the luring whisper of na
ture, th;:t to the sturdy pioneer is
stronger than Uc bonds of society
and even vies wlt'i the love of home
surrouucMrgs. la the early days
IM Walker as on the plains of Tex
as with his rifle as a companion. How
can four walls hold such a type?
Think you that storm or rain holds
any terrors for such as he? Each
laughing, bounding mountain stream
and each mammoth spruce or hem
lock as it shudders in the storm bids
him come. Each wild bird call is
music be cannot .withstand. Think
you that gold alone lured us all to j
his land? 'Twas the call of nature;
to communion with congenial spirits. !
Crazy? No. Tis he who hears not j
this call, who toils and sweats and I
schemes for gain and dies in the har
ness who is crazy. j
