The following leter was received
by J. W. Guthrie, president of th

telegram sent to Senator Hitchcock,
following the report that the post
master general favored a program of
retrenchment in the matter of tbm
erection of public buildings which
effected the chances of Alliance se

Mr. J. W. Guthrie,
Alliance Commercial Club,
Alliance, Nebr.
Dear Sor:-
Senator Hitchcock desires me to
acknowledge the receipt of your tel
egram of May third, and to say ia
reply that the opposition of the Post
master General to the erection of
public buildings in certain towns it
not likely to prevail. His attitude
la expressed in a minority report aa
a member of the Public Buildings
Commission which reported to Con
gress a few days ago, but as a ma
jority of the Commission took a dif ferent
view, It la not likely that the
Postmaster General's recommenda
tion will be accepted by Congress.
I will send you under separate
cover a copy of the minority and ma
jority reports. Very truly,
W. D. EAKIN. Secretary.
