SOUTH OMAHA
BOOSTERS TRIP
Jolly Knights of the Stock Yards
mikI i:rhantre HulMing Mak
ing Western Pilgrimage
Did you ever visit the South Oma
ha Btoci yards and Exchange bully
ing? If you dirt, you received a cor
dial greet ins. The fellows who do
business there are noted for their
Jolly, good will and pleasant man
ners. While courteous to every fJne
they meet, the "boys" have an air of
familiarity which is the. product of
genuine friendship. The greetings
do not always have "Mr." prefixed to
the name of the person addressed,
but It's 'Diir' and "Jack" and "Joe"
and "Jim" and "Tom" and "Dick"
and & lot of other familiar names.
The South Omaha men believe iu
getting In touch with the stockmen
with whom they do business. Every
yeard a bunch from there visit Alli
ance at the time of the annual con
vention of the, Nebraska Stock
Growers Association in June, and no
body who attends receives a more
cordial welcome. A trip is now be
ing made thru northern Nebraska,
and portions of South Daokta, Mon
tana and Wyoming.
The following account is taken
from the World-Herald of Tuesday,
April 14:
Bound tor the northwest on the
annual trade trip, twenty-five repre
sentatives of the live stock interests
of South Omaha, left here yesterday.
It was a happy, laughing, shouting
crowd of boosters of the thorough
bred type. With western hats, a yard
or more from brim to brim, the tour
ist throng looked ready to become a
part of the distant sagebrush scen
ery.
Willing to wager anything from a
broad smile td a broader hat, both
priceless possessions and not to be
considered trivial stakes, that there
is only one real, thriving, hustling
live stock market town on earth,
these men from the Cattle pens,
batiks and packing houses, waved
farewell to Omaha as they glided
away into the waiting west.
And if the urgent invitations, tell
ing of royal welcomes, are to be giv
en the slightest credence, it is a west
that is waiting Impatiently to greet
old friends. They have a way with
them, these live stock men, that
makes folks glad to see them out In
the wide country that makes a mar
ket town possible and worth while
8 tart from Omaha
It was at 3:55 o'clock yesterday
afternoon that the party left over
th Northwestern, traveling In a
special Tullman car. A large crowd
of Omaha and South Omaha friends
gathered at the Union station to ex
press best wishes for a pleasant trip.
The route leads through sections of
the cattle country of South Dakota,
Wyoming, Montana and Nebraska.
Two weeks will be required to com
plete the trip. It is expected that1'

the party will arrive homo on April

Among those prominent In the
party are General Manager Bucking
ham of the Union Stock Yards, Wil
liam Schellberg, traffic manager for
the yard company; A. F. Stryker,
secretary of the Live Stock Exchange
and J, II. Neff of the Drovers Jour
nal stockman.
Frank Stryker Is trip manager and
la supposed to know what every
member of the party Is thinking:
about, be able to tell when to lay
down three aces or tell the porter
when the ice water tank is empty.
The only thing that has been dis
covered that Frank does not have to
do is fire the engine, though he Is
said to have power to fire anything
else on the train.
Then there is Bill Schellberg. He
U another modern comfort to boost
er irtttursions., Without Bill the
Journey would be a sad and cheer
less pilgrimage. The efforts to make
things generally pleasant for every
one, as put forth by Farnk Stryker
and Bill Schellberg, will be ably Bee
onded by Manager E. Buckingham,
more lovingly known to his friends
as "Buck."
WIND ltliOWS IN CHICAGO
where he spent some time at the
manufacturing plant and general of
fices of the South Bend Malleable
Steel Range Manufacturing Com
pany. The Newberry company has
been retailing this line of stoves for
some time and have completed ar
rangements by which they will
wholesale the line thruout western
Nebraska, shipping the stoves to Al
liance in carload lots.
Mr. Stanton stopped in Chicago
while on the trip and saw the wind
blowing on Michigan avenue just as
hard as it blows in Box Butte county
on real windy days. .The display of
Easter millinery on Michigan avenue
was rather roughly treated by the
winds which tossed many beautiful
hats to the street and In front of the
many autos which are constantly
moving up and down that busy thor
ofare. Mr. Stanton also visited Mr. As-
pinwall, formerly of Alliance, and
went to a number of factories whose
lines are handled by the Newberry
company.
George Stanton, -of the C A. New
berry company, has returned from a
business trip to South Bend, Indiana,
