Federation Now Has Over Two

The report of the council, in ac
cordance with an amendment to the
constitution of the federation adopt
ed at the last annual convention of

tary and treasurer and the heads of
the various departments under its
upervisdon. The first report to be
submitted Is (that of tho secretary
wthich shows that the total receipts
were $244,292.04 and total expenses
268,702.88, with a consequent ex
penditure in excess of receipts of
S14.410.68.
During the year ended September
, 1913, 322 charters were Issued
to national and international, cen
tral, local trade and federal labor
salons. Reports from the secretar
ies of 98 national and international
organizations show that 2,682 chart
ers were issued and 1,348 surrender
ed. The gain in membership report
ed by 66 international organizations
was 205,696. Reports from 68 nat
ional and International organiza
tions and local unions affiliated with
the federation show that there were
69 strikes, in wMoh 294.236 work
' tr were Involved. Of that number
186,644 were benefitted. Tho total
costs of the strikes reported was
$3,345,721.43. In addition to this
amount $118,494.48 was donated by
unions to other unions, making a
grand total of (3,464,216.91 expended
to sustain members on strike dur
ing the year.
The report of the executive coun
oil concludes with the statement
that "the movement for a minimum
wage for women and minors has gain
ed considerably headway and the
sentiment in favor of a living wage
is rapidly crystallizing. The organ
ised labor movement has insisted up
on the establishment of a living
wage as a minimum and it has sue
ceeded in establishing minimum
wages and maximum-hours of labor
far superior to those prescribed by
the wage boards of other countries
