Western Nebraska Stockman Sells 8,500
Acre Ranch for $80,000 to
Hyannis Man
On Friday C. C. Joy, who Is now
making his home at Phoenix, Ariz
ona, sold his 8,600 acre cattle ranch
to Ed Myers, a Hyannia ranchman.
The consideration In the deal was
right aTound $80,000.
Joy arrived from Phoenix Friday
morning and the deal was closed the
same day. The Joy ranch has been
a western Nebraska landmark for
'years and adds greatly to Mr. Myers'
holdings. Mr. Joy will return to
RANCHMEN
MEETING
Valentine, Nebr., Oct. 30 This
town was the scene Friday of a live
ly meeting of ranchmen from "Ne
braska, South Dakota, Kansas, Okla
homa, Wyoming, Colorado and Tex-,
as. This was the second annual
meeting and added greatly to the
crowd which filled the town for the
registration for government claims.
The principal speaker of the day
was Mayor "Jim" Dahlman, of Oma
ha. The feature of the day was the
big barbecue given by the associa
tion. Most of the day was Bpent in
the telling of stories and experienc
es of the range. Mose Howard, of
South Omaha, was elected secretary
of the organization, and Woodruff
Ball of Valentine, assistant secre
tary. ALLIANCE TO HAVE
CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC
It Is now an assured fact that Al
liance is to have a School of Music,
the same to be affiliated with the
University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
The Alliance school of music will
care for western Nebraska students
preparing to enter the university.
Miss Eunice Burnett and Mrs. W,
D. Zediker are today fitting up the
building on Fifth street, Just west of
the Times building as the home for
the school. Miss Burnett will have
charge of the vocal, Mrs. Zediker
the piano and Prof. Darrow the vio
lin and mandolin departments. Theae
people are very capable and will no
doubt receive the support deserved
from western Nebraska.
DOUGLAS HERE
George Douglas, assistant Immigra
tion agent for the Burlington, came
in from the west Friday afternoon
on belated 44. George stated that
while the train was crossing switches
In the yards at iBUliogs some of
the cars jumped the track and start
ed off to one side. It took five big
engines to pull the train back on the
track.
Mr. Dougles has been on a trip
through Montana and Wyoming. He
will go to Chicago tonight.

Phoenix In a few days and make his
future home there.
A. S. Reed, formerly of Alliance,
whose home is now at Phoenix, Ar
izona, who has been visiting here
for several weeks in company with
his wife, will leave tonight for theii
home in the south. They have al
so visited eastern Nebraska points
whil eon this trip. They will proba
bly be accompanied by friends who
will visit in Phoenix during the win

Whitman Ranchman Shoots Off Shot
gun While Cleaning Left
Hand Nearly Severed
From Saturday's Daily:
Perl D. King, a Whitman ranch
man, was brought to St. Josephs hos
pital this morning on No. 41 by Dr.
McCIellan of Whitman for an opera
tion on his left hand, which was bad
ly injured Friday evening while
cleaning a Bhotgun.
King had been on a hunting trip
and had Just returned to his home.
While wiping the barrel with his
right hand and with his left hand
over the muzzle, the cloth which he
was using caught the trigger, firing;
the gun.
King was operated on this morn
ing by Dr. Slagle. The whole of the
left hand, excepting the thumb and
little finger, was removed.
FARLEY LEAVES
J. H. Farley, who recently proved
up on a homestead near Alliance,
leaves tonight for his old home near
Ack worth, Iowa. Ack worth is in
Warren county, 18 miles southeast
of Des Moines. Mr. Farley's post
office address here was Hewett. He
is shipping his personal property
with stock In a carload.
