A new cement sidewalk, construct
ed by J. J. Vance, takes the place
of the board walk on the south and
west sides of the lots occupied by
the Kent sisters' rooming house,

said a prominent Alliance business
man, speaking to a Herald repre
sentative regarding Thursday morn
ing's extra. And his remark was
only a specimen of many others that
were made during the day.

Pete Watson, one of The Herald's
warm Sioux county friends, was in

a winter supply of fine sandhill po
tatoes for his daughter and son-in-law

that he bad finished digging h po
tato crop of twenty-three acres
which averaged about seventy bush
els per acre after taking out the
small ones. The yield was not is
gcod as might have been desired but
he expects to make good money out
of the crop by holding until the
price reaches the top notch.
R. B. Jensen of Gary, Indiana,
near Chicago, was in Alliance last
Saturday, coming here from Mon
tana. He is buying cattle to ship to
Gary to feed on distillery slops.
Eugene E. Ford, of the First Nat
ional bank, left Tuesday night for
his home in Chicago, to be gone
