Carl O. Davidson, the escaped In
mate of the Colorado state Industrial
school at Golden who was captured
by the Alliance officers Saturday
morning, escaped before midnight
from the upstairs room In the city
hall in which Soys are confined.
The transom over the door is cov
ered with heavy iron bars. It ap
pears that an outside party pried
these apart and assisted the boy out.
There la no trace of him.

Guy Lockwood, who has been boost'
ing the special train proposition to
Hyannls on Thursday, has secured
nearly enough signatures to the sub
scription list. He expects to hat
enough to guarantee the train by
Tuesday noon.
The subscription list reads as fol
lows: "For the purpose of securing
a special train to run from Alliance
to Hyannls, Nebr., on Thursday, Oc
tober 9, to attend the Home Day
celebration there, we the undersign
ed, hereby agree to purchase and
pay for the number 'of round trip

John R. Lawrence went to Osh
kosh last week to run a "Kill the
Coon" game at the Garden county
fair, but returned without unpacking
his outfit, as the citizens ran the
coon out of town. It seems that
there is a strong prejudice in some
of the valley towns against colored
people on account of the misdoings
of a colored man down there some
time ago. It isn't fair to blame all
colored folks because some of their
number do wrong, any more than it
would be to condemn all white peo
ple because some whites are crimin

Howard Chalney, an automobile
mechanic, who has lived in Alliance
for several months, died at 6:20 o'
clock at the hospital Sunday evening
from an attack of ptomaine poison

feeling unwell for several days and
at nine o'clock Saturday evening was
taken with a severs attack. H

The Young Men's Bible Club won
the $350 piano whkih was awarded
as first prize In the voting contest
al the Norton-Steams' thirteen-day
sale which closed at 9 o'clock Satur
day night. The contest grew very
exciting towards the close and the
store was crowded when the result
was announced.
