VIENNA, June 26. The real reas
on for the suffragette outrages In
England has been discovered. Lec
turing in the Vienna Urania, Dr.
Julius Pokorny today explained why
tiKdern England afforded such fer
tile ground for "this extraordinary
psychical epidemic." The fact that
similar political and economic condi
tions existed In other countries led
the Professor to conclude that "the
true origin of this fanatical barbar
Ism is to be found in the ancient
civilization of the British Isles."
"Among the original inhabitants
of England," he said, "women occu
pied a domineering position She
spent her life In boundless liberty
Now, this original population, in con
trust with that of the rest of west
ern Europe, has managed to remain
comparatively pure, whereas there
has been constant retrogression of
the Anglo-Saxon stock. In London,
for instance, only one-sventh of the
people are blond. It Is no wonder,
therefore, that 1,400 years of Anglo
Saxon rule has not sufficed to keep
back Instincts which for more than
4,000 years were permitted to devel
ope unhindered among the original
inhabitants."
