Methodist conference held at Atkin

pointed to another charge, but we
understand that the Hemingtord peo
ple are determined to keep him with
them another year if possible.
Miss Josephine Hampton has been
visiting in the east for the past two
months and returned home a week
ago laat Saturday. While away. Miss
Hampton spent most of her time at
Toronto, Canada, where she has rel
atives. She says that they had an
exceptionally cool summer there anil
that she always wore her jacket
when she went shopping. She also
visited in Chicago and in Ohio. Miss
Hampton reports having had. a very
enjoyable time this past summer.
Mrs. P. M. Maxfield, who has
been ipastxr of the A. M. B. ehureb
of Alliance for several months, left
Tuesday for Cheyenne to attend the
Colorado annual conference of that
church. From there she will go to
Phoenix. Arizona, where she will
spend the winter. Mrs. Maxtnld
has been a consistent worker for
the colored clwirch members of Alli
ance, and her many friends r-ret
to see her go. She wish to thank
her fri n.:ls thru The Herald's col
umns for (lit ir kindness during her
stay in Alliance.

time been proprietor of the roomi;
house formerly owned by Oeo. Youfl
kin, litis sold his interest irthat es

Dismer restaurant. Mt. Brown has
bad considerable experience in loan

able to conduct his business in an
up-to-date manner. The cafe will be

FARMER LOSES BARN
hast Friday noon the large frame
barn of Bd Curry, who Hves several
males northeast of Alliance, was
burned together wiith some of its
eojiftents. The fire is supposed to
have been set accidentally by. a man
who was working for Mr. Curry. He

Thus wrote Miss KNie Daly, a
highly respected young lady who last
year in tight school near Lakeside and
had engaged to teach school west of
Alliance, in Ilox Butte county, win h

of this week.
After writing the above letter last
Saturday evening In her room at
the hotel in Alliance, she threw her

fumes of chloroform until they had
done their deadly work and lit')- had

her room about six o'clo k, she re
