Presbyterian Ladies Will Begin Ser
ies With a Waffle Supper.
The Ladies Aid of the First Pres
byterian church have decided to re
model the kitchen and dining room
of their church, and to raise the
money for this purpose will give a
series of suppers.
The first of these suppers will be
a "Waffle Supper" Riven on Tues
day evening;. March 12, at the spa
cious home of Mr. and Mrs. William
Mount.
Following is the menu: Waffles
and maple syrup, creamed chicken,
mushed potatoes, Wot biscuits, pick
les, cabbage salad, jelly, doughnuts.

DEATH OF BOX BUTTE LADY
On Saturday night occured the
death of Mrs. Elmer Vaughn, who
resided several miles west of Hem
ingford. Mrs. Vaughn leaves a hus
band and one son of nine years to
morun their loss. Death was caused
by heart trouble. Interment was
made in the cemetery at Heming-ford.

Word received from Horace Bogue
conveys the information that he is
returning from his southern trip via
New York. After a very pleasant
two weeks' visit at the home of his
parents. Or. and Mrs. H. P. V.
Bogue, at Crockett, Texas, he took
in the Mardi Gra at New Orleans
and from there went to Datonya
Beach, Florida. He Is now in New
York City ordering a sprint; stock of
goods for his Alliance store. He is
expected home in about two weeks.
The local declamatory contest, to
decide who shall represent the Alli
ance High School in the District de
clamatory contest, will be held at
the Phelan opera house, Tuesday,
March 12th. Eleven young people
have entered the contest and have
been working hard to make it a sue
cess. The following is the program

Alliance now has a band but It is
not the one organized last summer
by T. S. Jones, who came here from
Crawford. It is called the High
school band but it is not composed
entirely of High school boys. J. S.
Wallace is leader. There are now
j about a dozen other members of
the band and more to join soon
They have been practicing in The
HeiHid office but having secured
quarters in the basement of the
Phelun Opera House building. will
practice two evenings each week
there. When the personnel ot the
band has been completed The Her

time been employed by the telephone

ly received several new devices

of last week. His territory consists
of northwestern Nebraska and the
Guernsey line of the Hutiington in
Wyoming. With headquarters at Al
liance he finds it possible to spend
his Sundays hi home, which Is very

Pridgeport, on which he resides, but
