As many of our readers do not read the country correspondence, except from their own neighborhoods, we have tak en the item referred to from our cor respondence department and publish it below, as follows: Hon. Mr. Broome delivered a great speech at Alliance, Oct.. 12th, which was printed in The Herald. We en joyed reading it. The searchers for truth form a great Brotherhood. In this Brotherhood we find the best of all the churches and all the organizations that ate tor the betterment of -humanity, "When all things are tiied, truth is the best." Let us seek for the good and true. Keep with the good and you will be one of them. If one goes with the good, he acquires their tastes and habits. If he chooses the vulgar and low, he will surely find himself think ing and sa ing low phrases and de grading quotations. 1 The Presbyterians make prominent the injunction, "Do your duty." The Methodists are strong on nieth oil, order aud system. Judge Shars- ' wood of Pennsylvania said, "System 1 is everything," in his legal ethics. I The Baptists are great on water, dipping and purification. The Cougregationalists on unity. Dunkards are great on honest deal ing and more water. They wash the feet, whilst some denominations sprin kle a little on the head. Yes, there has been much fighting over water, and many of us may be going to a place where there isn't a drop of water. The Christian Scientists, no doubt, are right regarding worry. Work and faith does things; worry destroys. Then too, "Thoughts are things." The Catholic church also has so much good in it. As an organization it is not surpassed. The Sisters of Charity have done a world of good, aud look at the Catholic hospitals built aud maintained by them. In their Cathe drals they have the best of music aud from time immemorial they have been patrons of the arts. Yes. every village ought to have some church and a cemeterv, as the Germans say, "God's acie." The soul aud body needs a chinch. On the Sabbath, as Empress Josephine said, "the soul should be fed-" "Thou livest forever," the church needs ou and you need the church, but the body in a civilized country certainly should receive decent burial. "This world is not conclusion, A scriial stands beyond, Invisible as music, But positive as sound." Or as Tennyson says: "For tho, from out Bourne of Time and Place The flood may hear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face, When I have crossed the Bar." Religious Census of Alliance Some weeks since the Alliance Dis trict Sunday School association, auxil iary to the Box Butte Sunday School association, took a religious census of the city. The work was all done by volunteer canvassers, free of charge, and was finished within a few days. It is probable that the reports of the canvassers fall far short. of a complete census of the city; in fact, it is known that many families were missed on ac count of no one being at home when the enumerators called, and it is prob able that quite a number were acci dently missed. However, the reports will probably indicate fairly well the relative numerical strength of the var ious denominations.
