Buffalo Bill uses the White Steamer.

Up to July ist a total of ri.oSo automo
biles had been registered in the state. Up
to July 15th 6,49s had been registered in
South Dakota.
S. C. Reck has entered the automobile
business at Alliance, Nebr., having taken
the agency for the Ford in Box Butte
county. The Motorist.
Federal registration is badly needed.
This would save the necessity of securing
a license in every state in which a person
desires to run or use his car.
"The Motorist" published in Omaha,
continues to grow in size and importance
in the auto world. This magazine has
very interesting news and is of special
interest to Nebraska motorists.
W. L. McKissick of Carlyle, la., has
Invented an automatic cranking device for
automobiles. He ought to get rich; for
the want for something of this kind that
was not too expensive is well known.
James Keeler is running a regular sched
ule on trips to Bronco Lake. On Sundays
bis big six-cvlinder Rickett is kept busy
hauling passengers to and from the popu
lar lake resort, under the guidance of Mr.
Kintop.
The American Automobile Company
with a capital of $1,000,000 has been or
ganized at Beatrice, Nebr., and will man
ufacture the Jonz automobile on an exten
sive scale. The company already claims
to have orders on hand for $300,000 worth
of cars.
Never buy a car because of its outward
appearance. In buying a second hand car
always have some competent mechanic
examine it thoroughly and take his judg
ment. Some of the finest appearing cars
are cars that through improper use , or ac
cident have 'become badly damaged and
are worth very little.
The Detroit automobile factories will
probably manufacture 131,000 cars during
1911. Of this number Hupmobile will
make 10.000, Regal, 6,000, Paige-Detroit,
3,000. Everett, 3,000, Hudson, G.ooo,
Ford, 30,000, Chalmers, 7,000, E-M-P,
30,000, Cadillac 12,000, Packard, 4,000,
and the Brush, 10,000. Other factories
will make 10,000 more
Every auto driver should practice run
ning his car backward. It will prevent
accidents at times and if the car should
balk on a steep hill the ability to steer
backward becomes of great value. Some
times where a hill is too steep to climb on
the low gear it can be climbed by running
up backward as the gear ratio of the re
verse is lower than the low (speed.
In adjusting the contact breaker screws
when the contact breaker is of the positive
make-and-break type, care should always
be taken to see that the small locking
screw, which is provided in the split end
of the screw-supporting pillar, is properly
locked after the adjustment is complete.
Also, it should be noticed whether locking
up this screw affects the adjustment of the
contact screw, as this sometimes happens.
When the contact-making screw is not
properly locked up, the constant tapping
on it of the trembler blade invariably
works it farther back, so that the adjust
ment does not keep correct for any length
of time, and, consequently, the annoyance
of misfiring is experienced very frequently.
Following is a list of the names of own
ers with makes of cars in Box Butte coun
ty, as shown by the Auto Department files.

favor by notifying this department

Smoke Obscures Sun
On Monday the smoke from the burning
forests in Wyoming, Montana and Wash
ington was so heavy that it bad the ap
pearance of a cloudy day. Tuesday the
wind changed but on Wednesday it veered
back again and at times the smoke was so
heavy that the sun could not be seen. The
fires are steadily getting worse and the
forests now burning are said to cover a
district one hundred miles square. The
timber and property loss is running into
many millions of dollars.
