This season is the best ever known since
the advent of the automobile for the use of
the same. Roads all over the country are
good.
The record between Detroit and Omaha
was broken last week by a 1911 Cadillac,
the trip being made in 35 hours and 37
minutes actual running time.
There are now about 300,000 autos be
ing operated in the United States, or one
for every 300 persons.
Although the solid tire is being recom
mended as the remedy for a great many of
the automobile troubles, still it has its
drawbacks. It will skid in ruts and will
cut into sand so that no progress can be
made although it will not skid ia sand as
the pneumatic tires do.
Imported flint stone wire is now being
used in place of platinum by automobile
manufacturers.
Automirrors which allow the driver to
see in the rear of his machine are becom
ing quite general. They are of great value
especially in crowded city streets and
where traffic is heavy.
The Hammer & Hull Company, of
Cleveland.Ohio.are malting a special outfit
for lighting Ford automobiles by electrici
ty. The current is obtained from the
magneto which produces enough power to
feed the engine aud also light a couple of
headlights. The outfit includes two re
flectors with sliding socket, two Mazda
lamps, switch, wire with terminals and
clamps. The outfit sells for ten dollars.

The editor of a newspaper is often ac
cused of leaving out certain items of news
purposely, because of a dislike of a person
to be mentioned or from prejudice or
another cause. This is bosh. There aro
something like a million things to be
thought of in connection with the issue of
one paper and it is not surprising if an
item is missed occasionally or one forgot
ten to which attention has perhaps been
called. Nine out of ten people you ask for
news items will tell you they can't think of
any. But in most cases they expect the
editor to think of them all and criticise if
a single item U omitted. The best way is
to give the editor credit for what he does
find and mention and for some things he
finds and doesn't mention. Ex.
Camp Otis Robbed.
Camp Otis, about which an interest

of the Herald, had an exciting time

A peculiar thing happened last
wdelc at John Lundry's ranch
near hero during a heavy thun
derstorm. Lightning struck
John's windmill and charged it
and tho surrounding ground
with so much electricity that tho
mill has been running ever since,
without any wind. In fact, it
seems to run better on calm days.
For two days everything around
the ranch was full of the deadly
juice but ho overcame this by
running tho water through rub,
ber hose which minimized tho
danger to his stock, when drink
ing. Lundry has so much water
that he is utilizing it for irriga
tion purposes and in order to
get the benefit of the electricity
which is going to waste ho is
erecting some charging plants
and will re-charge lightning buga
which will do away with the Chi
nese lanterns which the society
people roundabouts have been in
the habit of using.
