Pish and Game Commission
has arranged to stock with iish
the Roosevelt Reservoir, a lake
25 miles in area. Owners of
24,000 acres of land outside the
Roosevelt Project have asked to
have their lands and works add
ed to the Salt River Valley
scheme. Piling a trust deed to
secure $40,000,000 of bonds to
Farmers Loan and Trust Co. of
New York evidences the pro
gress intended by various com
bined railroad lines in Arizona.
Recent decision making a re
duction of 80 per cent in freight
rates to Arizona to go into effect
October 1st will stimulate trade
conditions to a remarkable extent.
Sample of the early crops in
Arizona: the Glendale sugar
factory has received 25,000 tons
of beets this reason, hauling
closed July 21. Outside of Ariz
ona beet hauling is only com
mencing. Subdivision of large
tracts in Salt River Valley is
noted, 11,007 acres have been
added to the small areas since
April. This is more than the
area subdivided during the en
tire preceding year, a splendid
endorsement of the Roosevelt
Project. Farmers of Salt River
Valley are to erect power plants
to produce 10,000 horse-power,
an assessment of $2.23 per acre
for two years will pay the cost
of construction, $1,000,000, after
which time profit will result to
land owner and water user.
Territorial and National Banks
report progress.
A good Phoenix newspaper is The Ariz
ona Republican. It is a daily twelve-page
paper in its twenty-first year. The Re
publican occupies its own large building
in Phoenix which was erected especially
for it. Anyone desiring a copv of this pa
per can get it at The Herald office.
City Council Meets
The city council held their regular
meeting' August 3rd. The meeting was
culled to order by Mayor Harris,

WEALTH IN IRRIGATION
Congress has just appropriated Twenty Hillion
Dollars to hasten the work of Government ir
rigation. THE GOVERNMENT SHOSHONE PROJECT IN
THE BIG HORN BASIN
will receive its share und be pushed to completion at once. Contracts for a
twelve-mile extension of the main caual were let June 27th. More than 150
farms now ready for settlers, uud a large number of farms are now being sui
veved, which will be open to entry within a few weeks.
These rich lunds, irrigated by the Government, can be homesteaded by
simply repaying the Government uctuul cost &4ft per acre, in ten yearly pay
ments, without interest.

As a unique method of advertising Alliance and Box Butte county, we or
dered direct from the factory a case of envelopes (about 40,000) on which was
printed, before the envelopes were folded, a photo cut shown below, with a
blank space in the upper left hand corner in which we print at this office the
names of persons or firms using- them.
These make a splendid advertisement of Alliance and Box Butte county
and we wish to have them used as extensively as possible. More than two
thirds of these envelopes have already been sold, mostly to business men of
Alliance but some to farmers. Our price on these envelopes, with corner card
printed in either black or colored ink, was as follows: 50 for 75c; 100 for
$1.00; 250 for $1.50; 500 for $2.65.
