Engineer Georgo Hicks is visiting
his family in Kavcnna.
Switchman Sweeney of the night
force has resigned and gone to Denver.
Mail Clerk Palmer changed runs and
is now on 301-304 with his home in
Denver.
Win, Manley and Geo. Gordon are
two new hrakemen who went to woik
this week.
Flagman L. W. Walther reported
for work Jan. 20th, having been sick
for two weeks.
Flagman J. W. Castle has been
transferred from the passenger to the
freight service.
Conductor George Voting is taking a
lay off. Conductor Arthur Pickett has
Young's crew and car.
V A. Leaf, the Denver messenger,
is laying off to attend the funeral of his
brother-iti'law m Denver.
Engineer Ferguson of Sterling came
iu On 302 Wednesday morning for a
few days' visit with his family.
Conductor E. J. Beard loft Tuesday
for his home in Aurora, Nebr., expect
iug to be gone until Feb. 5th.
The express driver, W. 13. Lankiu,
who has been visiting in York, return
ed to Alliance Tuesday morning.
Express Messenger Soderatrom, who
has been in tho general office in Don
ver, is again on his regular run.
Machinists W. H. White and M.
O'Brien have resigned and will try
making their fortune in Denver.
Word comes from Brakcman Hack,
victim of the Rutland wreck, that ho is
doing fine and that it will take mora
than that to scaro him out.
Brakcman Hicks is now on tho cast
end, having bumped Fted Vaughn. Mr.
Vaughn expects to get a new uniform
of overalls and jumper and go on
freight.
Last Friday afternoon there were
five extras south marked and only two
south lino crews hero. Threo main
line conductors, Ward, Iloskius and

Conductor Fred Kcedcr has boon
transferred from tho high lino to tho
Alliance division, He has to make a
trip over tho road to get acquainted
when ho will be given a train.
Engineer Pomcroy, who had his
shoulder broken iu tho Hcmingford
wreck, came down from Crawford on
No. 44 Tuesday to havo tho company
physician attend to his shoulder. It
will bo a month or more beforo ho can
report for wbrk,
Conductor U. N. Hoskins will leave
on No. 44 Thursday for Long Pino,
Nebr., having received word that his
aged mothor was very sick. Ho ex
pects to bo gone about ten days. Con
ductor Richardson will tako out Hon
kin's car and crow.
Mr, and Mrs. Fred Sprrcklcr and
son of Norfolk, Nebr., are hero vinit
iug Mrs. Sprcckler's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Anderson. Mr. Sprccklcr is yard
foreman for tho C & N. W. at Norfolk.
They returned to their home on No.
42 Wednesday morning.
The many fricndB of tho company
medical examiner, Dr. Betclhcim, and
his wlfo will ho sorry to see thorn leave
Alliance. During their residence here
they have made many fi lends. Their
homo will he near Spearfish, S- D.,
where the doctor haa a largo much.
On Wednesday morning sparks from
tho engine of 304 set fire to the bridge
at Simla, tho second station beyond
Bridgeport. An equipment from Chey
enne was sent by way of Sterling to
Simla, 303 waited at Allianco until 5
o'clock, thou went as far as tho burned
bridgo and transferred her passengers
and mail.
Undergoes Serious Operation.
Engineer and Mrs, D. C. Taylor of
Guernsey aro both here under tho caro
of a physician. On Wednesday mom
ing Mrs. Taylor was operated on at
tho hospital for cancer. Sho is now
resting as comfortable as could be ex
pectcd. Mr. Taylor has rheumatism
in one knee and is hardly ahlo to walk.
