AGED MAN DROWNED IN WELL
Badly Decomposed Body of Hans
Chrlstcnsen Found In Well.
Dlnlr, Neb., Juno 14. Tho body of
Hnim Chrlstonsen, aged nbout seronty
years, was found at tho bottom of u
sixty-foot well on hjs pronribcs. Mr.
Chrlsteiiben lived nlono, being a retired
farmer, and had cleaned out his well
boforo this by means pf n rope lad
der, which was found hanging In tho
well. He had been missed by his
neighbors since May 30, but wna sup
posed to hnvo gone to visit IiIb son, J.
C. OhrlHtonsen, who Js a merchant at
Oruni, in tho western part of this
county. His face was badly brulsod
and the body badly decomposed.
Mayor Defies Game Warden.
Lincoln, Juno 15. Dan Ge,llus, dep
uty gomo wnrdon, nnd tho mayor of
Auburn nre having a hot tlmo ovor
the order of 'the mayor to tho city
marshal to kill all the squirrels run
ning at large In Auburn. This order
was the result of the biting of two or
three children by squirrels affilcted
with rnbles. The game warden has
ordered tho stnto law enforced against
the killing of squjrrols out of season,
and In reply the mayor has written the
game wnrdon a letter In which he told
him to begin his prosecution whenover
he felt like It, that tho squirrels In
Auburn had to go.
Dietrich Will Wed Daughter's Chum.
Hastings, Neb., Juno 14. Mrs. Will
lam Shaw Stowart of Philadelphia has
announced the engagement of her
daughter, Miss Margaretta Shaw Stow
art, and former Senator C. H. Dietrich.
Miss Stowart and the senator's daugh
ter, now Mrs. Horbert Knox Smith,
were classmates at Bryn Mawr. SJnco
her graduation, Miss Stewart has been

Rushvllle Man Instantly Killed.
Alliance, Neb., June 14. During a
severe electrical storm, which passed
northeast of this city, George Carter,
aged twenty years, whose residence Js

killed by a bolt of lightning. Tho
body was brought to Alliance and rela
tives notified of tho accident.

Beck, colored, for many years a porter
at a local hotol, was lodgod In Jail on

BODY HANGING BY ONE ARM
Man Evidently Fsll From Train and

Herman, Nob., Juno 12. Charles Ar
nold saw a man's coat hanging to tho
railroad bridge just north of tho vll
lago limits and' found tho body of a
man hanging by one arm to tho wlro
fenco and lying against the bridge.
Ho had evidently fallen off a passing
train during tho night and his head
had struck tho bridge, crushing tho
skull. Coroner Penrco took charge of
tho remains and found $1 In money
and a memorandum book on his per
son, showing that he was from Mich
igan. One Item In this book was:
"In caso of Borlous Injury, my name Is
P. J. Griffith. Please notify Mrs.
James Griffith, Lansing, Mich."

Lincoln, June 14. Sheriff Hoagland
has received word that Arthur J. Jack
son, wanted hero for embezzlement,
has been arrested In Syracuse, N. Y.
Deputy Sheriff Dawson will leave Im
mediately to bring him back, Jack
son took French leave early In Janu
ary of this year, It Is charged, with
6evoral hundreds dollars of the money
of David Rivers, his employer.
Costly Fire at Cleveland.
Cleveland, Juno 12. One fireman
was Injured and several others had a

and Door company fell, as the result of
a firo which destroyed tho buildings.
