If you do not wish to miss part of the entertainment, get thore on time. ,www, Nerthwtst Alliance Improving In a before-breakfast walk one fine morning this week the editor observed the improvements that are being made on north Toluca avenue. W. H. All gclcr was making garden on the lot at 706. The house on this lot is of red pressed brick and is ono of the most beautiful cottages in the city. Mr. Allgcicr expects to move into this house about tho 15th inst. On the cast side of the avenue, al most opposite, I, T. Carey is building a ticat cottago to rent. P. S. Olson arrived on Tuesday on his return from Tliermopoli,. Wyo., with the remains of his son, S. V. Olson, who died as the result ot "n accident. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the St. John's Lutheran church near llemingford, inter ment being in the cemetery adjoining the church yard. Tho services were conduct ed by the pastor, Rev. Cleavurd, We wish to express our feeling of sym pathy for the bereaved relatives and friends in their time of affliction. Following is from tho Thermopolis He cord: S. W. Olson, who has worked on the range in this part of the country for sever al years past, was brought to town a week ago suffering from injuries received by his horse falling on him several days previous ly. At first it was not thought that he was badly hurt and ho continued to work, but ho had to give up and was brought here for medical care. Relatives at Alliance, Nebr., were informed by wire of his con dition and his father P. S. Olson arrived last night. He was too lato to be with bis son at the end, for death had relieved him of his suffering. Deceased was 28 years old last Novem ber and came to Wyoming six years ago. He had a largo number of friends here. The body has been embalmed and the father will start with it tomorrow to have it buried beside his mother and sister at Alliance. Card of Thanks P. S, Olson and family wish to thank tho people of Alliance for their kindness during our bereavement. Trees on Court House Grounds The county commissioners have ordered of D. M. Gorman, of the Plumfield Nurser ies, Fremont, Nebr., thirty-five shade trees tor the court house grounds. A special order was sent in for the same. Mr. Gorman will personally superintend the putting out of the trees and will see that they are properly taken care of during the summer. This means the starting of a park and sets an example by the county commissioners that we would like to see followed by many of our people. City Council Convenes The city council convened Tuesday evening, the business of tho municipal year just closed being cleaned up by tho old council, after which Mayor Harris and tho gentlemen con stituting the new council, Messrs. Hoi stcn, Newberry, Martin and James, were installed. It bad been expected that a number of saloon licenses would be granted, but the .matter was delayed by tho necessity for repealing tho ordinance that was passed last year forbidding tho granting of licenses. The next meeting will bo held Friday evening, tlie 21st inst. .The Herald will keep its readers correctly informed as to the 0flici.1l proceedings of the council tho ensuing year. New Real Estate Firm The Herald tnkes pleasure in announc ing the new real estate firm of Dineen, Rubendall & Young, solid business men and hustlers for business. Mr. Dineen Jis too well known to our readers to need an introduction here, his namo having fre quently been mentioned in these columns. While living in the eastern part of the state he has sold more than 30,000 acres ot UoxDutte soil. Peter Rubendall has been connected with the First National bank of Madison, Nebr., for the past 23 years. He has just resigned the presidency of that instituion to come to Alliance. Joe Young is an old-time advertising man, having formerly been in the employ of the Omaha Bee, but recently associated in business with Mr. Dineen at Madison. We bespeak a "land olfice business" for the new firm. The Woman's Society of the Baptist church have secured the services of Rev. H. H. Derry to deliver two lec tures in the Baptist church Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, May 11-12. Rev- Berrv spent a number of years as a whaler, catching Sperm whales. His first lecture will be "Catching Whales;" the second, "Life oil the Rolling Deep." These lectures will bo hu morous, educational and entertaining. Tickets for both lectures, 50 cents. MP.TIIODIST El'ISCOFAL CHURCH Organized labor has requested that May gtli be observed by the churches of the country as "Labor Day." Ac cordingly, the service at 8 p- 111. of that date will be devoted to that inter est. The fire department of the city and all members of labor organization are especially invited to participate in the service. The theme of the sermon will be, "Christ, the Ultra Individual ist, and the Ideal Socialist." The morning them will be, "Drunk or Sober, Which Shall It Be?" A wel come is extended to all. Strangers in the city desiring a home-like church will make no mistake in attending here. At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Phillips, in West Lawn, occurred the marriage of Miss Mabel C. Phillips to Mr. Thomas J. Campbell, at 8:30 o'clock, Wednesday, May 5, Rev. Vallow officiating. These young people are well known in Alliance and have many friends who join with The Herald in extending best wishes and congratulations. They will commence housekeeping at once in the home the groom has already prepared for bis bride. Miss Nell Grant of Madison, Nebr., has been visiting with her friend, Mrs. Dr. Single, and expects to remain in Alliance about a week longer. The Rt. Rev. Anson R. Graves, D. 1 D., bishop of Kearney, will be at St. Matthew's church Sunday, May 9th. E. Lawrence and Curley Strick came up from their homesteads in the hills Thursday where they have been doing some improvements of late. The former put down a well and the latter fenced a large tract for crop land. Curley will help Trenkle Bros, cut spuds- W. E. will assist bis father at the same job. Chas.
