They have with them an impersonator of un usual ability and the musical repertoire will consist of quartets, duets, solos, ami trombone quartets, Mark the date on your calendar and be sure to attend. Hurrah for the Fourth of July! all aboard for Alliance! They're coming to town from all over. By rail, by auto, by wagon, by gosh any way they can get here to see the fun. And Alliance is prepared to meet them all with open arms. Everything is in readiness for the celebration on the Fourth and the committees have done their work well. From early morning till midnight there is to be an unceasing program of fun and pleasure. The first I rays of day light will wecome the natal dav amid booming of cannon and the fluttering of old glorv on a thousand flag-staffs. A grand street parade such as never before occurred, will take place at 10 o'clock. It will include many features, which are fully detailed in the program published on another page. Athletics o'f various kinds, with purses for the winners. Racing also will be an inter esting feature ot the celebration. - Aerial navigation is at a point when the whole world is deeply interested. In this the entertaining committee has ar ranged to have a grand balloon ascen sion on the Fourth, which it will be well worth coming miles to sec. A game of base ball between the Ravenna and Alliance teams will be a special and important feature and will attract a great crowd. Both teams have excellent records in the base ball world. A shooting tournament will be held in the afternoon at the gun club grounds east of the city with prizes for the winners. Several of the prominent Alliance merchants are offering prizes for vari ous features which will be of interest to out-of-town visitors, and are ex plained in the official program. The ladies of the entertaining com mittee will see to it that all lady and children visitors are comfortably cared for during the day and evening and a "rest room" for all will be arranged at 116 Wyoming avenue. So, just hitch up the old nag and come to Alliance with the whole family and you'll be glad you spent the day in the best city in western Nebraska, where the people always do things right. The fireworks display will include several new and novel features and will take place at night, when the heavens will be aglow with pyro technical granduer. Death by Drowning Mrs. VV. D. Watkins, who removed from Alliance to Long Beach, Calif, with her husband about nine years ago, was found drowned in a canal near her home, together with her daughter Eva, aged about ten years. There were no witnesses to the accident, but it is pre sumed that the child fell into the water and that the mother lost her life in a futile attempt to save her child. The sad calamity occurred on Friday of last week, W, D. Watkins is a brother of R. H. Watkins. Mrs. G. L. Griggs and children re turned yesterday from a visit of three weeks at Omaha. Section Foreman Keano brought one Win, Snowdan to town laBt Tuesday from Girard and turned him over to Sheriff Wiker for trespassing the law. Keano looks after the Burlington's in terests at Girard and caught Snowdan in the act of getting away with a coat and two revolvers from the car used as a section house at that place. But it was not till Keano had a lively scuffle with the thief that ho was able to over power him. Snowdan shot at the sec tion boss twice with tho stolon guns but his markmanship was "bum" and hence no injury was done. The stolen property belongs to Chas. DeBonis, an Italian laborer at Girard. Snowdan was arranged before Judge Berry Tues day afternoon and plead guilty at a preliminary hearing. Ho was charged with shooting with intent to do great bodily injury and on the second count of theft. Bail of 1,000 on each count was imposed, in default of which ho was taken in custody by tho sheriff to appear in the next term of district court. Thrown "from Buggy., While out driving Wednesday even ing, Mrs. S. W. Jacoby and Mrs. G. H. Wright were thrown from tho buggy they occupied, in front of the North-West hotel. The ladies lost control of the horse which started to Tun north on Box Butte avenue. Mrs. Jacoby was thrown out on the crossing leading to the depot, while Mrs, Wright was hurled heavily to the cement pave ment in front of tho Coors building, rendering her unconscious for several hours. She was bruised about the head and body, and while her injuries are painful nothing serious will result, Mrs. Jacoby was only slightly hurt. Holland, four miles southeast of Hemingford, when their youngest child fell into a tub of (boiling water and was so badly scalded as to cause its death that night at ioo'olock. More Automobiles F. J. Betzold is the latest victim that the automobile microbe has got in its work on, and Bud is now running on "high speed" all the time. He return ed this morning from Council Bluffs, where he bought three machines of the Jackson make and secutcd the agency for this company at Alliance. One car will bo for his own use, and two will be for sale. The car-load will arrive to morrow and the autos will be seen in the' parade the Fourth. The Jackson is cousidcr ed u very good car and will doubtless give satisfaction, Mr. Betz old will be pleased to demonstrate to prospective customers. Stole Clothes. Paul Wood, a vouth of seventeen years, who bails from ban rrancisco, and has been working in Alliance for the past three weeks, was run in by Night Marshal Cox last night for the theft of a suit of clothes belonging to Lee Bayse at whose home he had been rooming. Wood 6tole the clothes yes terday, taking them to the depot where he expressed them to Denver, When asked why he took the suit he said he had one about like it last summer and thought he'd like to have another. The lad is now in the city jail and will have a hearing tomorrow. Engineers C. H. Rockey.F, E. Allen, I. U. Hager, C. E. Wills, Sam Tillett, Dan Fitzpatrick and John Kennedy attended the funeral of Engineer Mul len at Sheridan Monday. Mr. Mullen, who was killed in an accident last week, was a very popular railroad man, and his funeral was largely attended by his fellow workers. The members of tho BI of L. E., Elks and K.
