Miss Frances Nolan entertained a

o'clock dinner Sunday evening.

family were up from Bridgeport to
spend Easier with their parents.
A. E. Wheeler, a son on Mrs. Ella
Haynes, arrived Tuesday from Dallas,
Texas, to make his mother a visit.
J. E. Ryan of Oshkosh had business
in the metropolis Monday. He reports

The city schools had a half holiday

teachers and pupils in planting trees on
the school grounds.
G. M. Barnes, an optician from
Omaha, who practiced his profession
in Alliance a couple days the latter part
of the week, was arrested Saturday
evening for refusing to pay a license.
He was fined $10.

liance friends last Friday.

Jake Waso, who has been employed
at Bucchscustein's cigar factory for
several years, loft Tuesday night for a
visit at Columbus, his former home,

Mr. and Mrs. G. L. McCullough of
Omaha, are spending a. few days in the
city. Mr. McCullough is traveling
salesman for the Crcston, (la.) Disin
fecting company.
Mrs, McMillan of Marsland attended
Presbytery in tho Platte1 valley this
week. She stopped in Alliance both
going and returning and visited her
friend Mrs. J. A. Hunter.
Fritz Boncss and Win. Scidler left
last Friday morning for a trip to Edge
mont and other western points. Mr.
Boness expected to visit with his sister,
Minnie, at Edgeinont a couple of days.
A baby boy arrived at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Cogswell Saturday.
Mother and child aro getting along sat
isfactorily and Percy well, that smile
from car to ear speaks louder than
words.
Ira Reed and J. E. Rice shipped a
car of horses to Casper and Lander,
Wyo., Tuesday, having purchased the
animals in Box Butte and Dawes coun
ties. This is the first shipment from
this vicinity to market west of here that
has come under our observation.
The newly formed social organiza
tion known as the Mary Janes" were
entertained at a three-course luncheon
at nine o'clock Easter morning by the
Misses Myrtle and Alice Carlson. The
decorations were very tasteful and a
very nice time was had by all present.
Mike Elmore arrived in the city this
morning from New York and will spend
a short time looking after business in
terests, visiting relatives and renewing
acquaintances with his hosts of friends.
He drove out to his Snake Creek ranch
today, accompanied by his sou John.
R. G. Fleming and family took their
departure Sunday night for Chippewa
Falls, Wis., where they expect to reside
in the future. Mr. Fleming has been
in tho employ ot F. J. Betzold for
several years and was regarded as a
reliable man. Mrs. Fleming and chil
dren will visit at Missouri Valley, Iowa,
for a short time.
Miss McCorkle gave a musical at her
home last Friday evening in which
twenty-one of her pupils participated
and all showed the careful training they
have received. There were about sixty
guests present and that a most enjoy
able evening was spent there is no
doubt. The McCorkle home was beau
tifully decorated in pink and green,
presenting a pleasing appearance. Deli
cious refreshments were served.
Dr. Allen will leave Sunday morning
for southern California where his family
has spent the winter and will accom
pany him home about a month hunce.
This will be the first vacation that the
doctor has taken in years and that he
has earned and will appreciate it, there
is no doubt. He may return by way of
Portland and Seattle. Not being able
to secure competent help, Dr. Allen's
dental office will be closed during his
absence.

coat at the Hila Grand Tuesday was

J. N. Brewer, a Crawford business
man, was in the city today. Mr. Brewer
reports tfmes pretty good in our sister
city.
The Passion Play at the Crystal this
week is drawing big crowds and every
body who has witnessed the production
is highly pleased.
A. T. Hemingway, general manager
of the Forest Lumber company, is here
from Kansas City looking after tho
compauy's interests in Alliance.
Tho Forthnightly club met at the
home of Mrs. A. S. Reed last Saturday
night. After the business session, the
time was passed pleasnntly with various
games and refreshments were served.
Mrs. E. C. Olday who expects to leave
soon for Boulder, Colo., was presented
with a handsome souvenir spoon.
Miss Inice McCorkle departed Tues
day morning for Texico, New Mexico,
where she will visit a few weeks with
Mrs. Ed Bettlehcim, - nee War
mi. Mr. and Mrs. Bettlehcim were
former residents of this Alliance. Miss
McCorkle will visit other southern
points of interest aud no doubt will
have a pleasant vacation.
Miss Etha Dewey, of Lincoln, 'ar
rived in Alliance this morning. Miss
Dewey is a teacher of instrumental
music and has opened a studio at the
residence of Mrs. Reed, 612 Box Butte
avenue. She was a student for two
years at the Nebraska Wesleyan uni
versity and spent one year at tho Morn
ingside conservatory, Sioux City. See
