Oscar L. Chad and Rosa B. Swope,
both of Crawford, were married in this
city Wednesday sorenoon, Judge Berry
officiating.
Mrs. Nellie Cooper and son, Fred,
returned this morning to their home in
Sheridan alter a months' pleasant visit
with Mrs. Nellie Hillier.
Mrs, W. D. Rumer and daughter,
Miss Florence, will leave this evening
for Ord, Neb., where they will visit
Mr. and Mrs. Cass Cornell.
Mrs. I. P. Reardon expects to leave
tonight for Omaha to spend Easter with
her daughter, Miss Marie, who is at
tending a convent school there.
Mrs. J. C. Birdsell, accompanied by
her daughter, Arlene, departed Monday
evening for Buffalo, N. Y., where they
will visit with Mrs. Birdscll's sister.
The case of the State vs. Volley
Wilson which wa3 called before Jus
tice Bullock Monday, was continued
for thirty days at the request of de
fense. The city schools will no doubt at
tract many of our people next Friday
that being the time for presentation of
a program of special interests by the
scholars.
Miss Alice Westover is recovering
from her recent illness nicely and be
gan giving music lessons to some of
her former pupils this week. Rushville

K. L. Pierce, cashier of the Heming
ford bank, stopped in Alliance this fore
noon on his return from a business trip
to Chicago. He was accompanied by
his son Donald.
The many friends of Mrs. F. W.
Irish will be pleased to learn that she
is improving. Mrs. Irish has been
dangerously ill since the birth of a son
Wednesday, Apiil 8.
Mr. Ira Reed, of Alliance, Neb., and
Mr. Earl Fosket, of Hemingford, Neb.,
were bberidan visitors, Sunday, the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Waisner,
at dinner. Sheridan Post,
Fraiilc Johnson, who is ill nt a hospital
in Lincoln, remains in about the same
condition. Ed. Fenner, who went to
Mr. Johnson's bedside last Thursday
returned Monday and gives this infor
mation. Nate Hart came down from Lead,
S, D., Tuesday night to look after busi
ness interests and will probably lease
his fine new building before he returns
home, Mr. Hart reports business fair
ly good in tho Black Hills.
J. R. VanBoskirk left on 41 last
Monday for ati extended trip on tho Pa
cific coast. His family is at Myrtle
Creek, Oregon, his first destination,
"Van" will make a a tour of investiga
tion throughout that region before re
turning. The Herald is pleased to announce
that R. J. Lawrence now has full
charge of tne management of the Al
liance electric company and that it is
his intention to make a material re
duction in tho price of electricity with
in a few days-
The breaking of a window glass at
the home of Mrs. Ross one night last
week frightened the family greatly and
indications point to the fact that some
one' is anxious to get behind the bars
of the city jail for a period of time for
such depredation.
Those who were summoned to Lin
coln Tuesday as witnesses in the fed
eral court in the Ashbrook caso re
turned this morniug. It is stated that
none of them gave any material evi
dence and it is the general opinion
that no convictiou will be had.
Mrs. Louiso Brewster, who has been
a compositor in this office for several
months has accepted a position with
Mr. and Mrs. Prouty, view photograph
ers. Mrs. iirewster is very emctent
help in a printing office and her ser
vices will doubtless prove valuable in
the photo business.
M. A. Brown, the genial stockman of
Sheridan county, spent a couple of
days in Alliance the first of the week.
By the way, we heard a handsome
young lady of Alliance say that "It
must be lonely for a bachelor like Mr.
Brpwu, who was raised in Chicago, to
live alone on a ranch."

John A. Wilson went to Lincoln last
Saturday night where his wife is at St.
Elizabeth's hospital for medical and
surgical treatment. Mrs. Wilson is in
a serious condition and it will require
the best skill and care to overcome her
ailment, a condition that many friends
of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson in this section
will anxiously look for.
Prof. Williams, of our high school,
has accepted a position nt Alliance as
instructor and athletic director at a sal
ary of $85.00 per month. Chadron
people will dread to have him go, for
he has done excellent work in our
schools for two years, but we congratu
late the Alliance people on their good

Amos Rickel went to Alliance Mon
day night to assume the duties of
night baggageman. Ho served in the
capacity of baggageman at the depot
in this city long enough to know how
to wreck a Saratoga without a slip or
bat of an eye, and thus promotion in
his chosen occupation has speedily fol
lowed. Broken Bow Republican.
J. W. Thomas, of the Nebraska
Land company, left Tuesday night for
Omaha and expects to spend some time
iu the eastern part of the state. His
son, Lloyd C. Thomas, who is travel
ing salesman for the Oliver Typewriter
company, will be associated with the
company after this week. In the
meantime, his wife is attending to the
office work.
Master Fred Cooper entertained a
number of little ones yesterday at the
home of his grandma, Mrs. Hillier, to
an Easter party. The little sprites of
humanity enjoyed the occasion just as
well as grown people. They had all
kinds of toothsome dainties that ap
peal especially to the younger genera
tion and they indulged in the same to
the extent that the laws of digestion
would permit.
