They intend to return if the weather stays agree able. Minnie Parker came from King Tuesday morning and visited with friends Until Monday when she enrolled at the Advenist school. Mrs. B. E. Johnston visited with her mother, Mrs. McCandless, Wednesday. Mrs. McCandless has been quite sick with asthma. Roscoe Emery, representative of the Emery Produce Co., of Ottumwa, Iowa, left Monday, after purchasing several cars of potatoes. Mae Enyeart has quit working for N. Frohnapple to get ready to begin school next Monday. She will teach the Arm strong school. B. U. Shepherd received the sad news Friday that his mother, who lived in Den ver, was dying. Mr. Shepherd and wife left for there the same day. E. D. Mayhew (the jack of spades), of Chicago, and Wm. Ewerkamp, represen tatives of Evers Produce Co., of Quincy, 111., are buying potatoes here at present, Mr. Condit, who represents the Craig Burr Mercantile Co., St, Jo., stopped here Friday to buy potatoes and while here sold several barrels of apples to merchants here,, Mr. Ferguson of St. Paul, Robert Har vey and N. Frohnapfel were out to the river the first of the week, hunting ducks, We hear they got lots of hunting, but no ducks. Mrs, Baldwin and neice Nora Stone, came down from Belmont last week. Mrs. Baldwin will run a boarding house at the Advent settlement and Nora will attend school. Mr. John Caha and wife came in Satur day to see Dr. Eikner about a sore in Mrs, Caha's ear. Mrs. Sallie Richardson arrived from tho eastern part of the state recently to visit for a time with her daughters, Mrs. Jack son and Mrs. Cox. A daughter arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McGoggy on Monday. Mother and daughter are doing well, and Mac allows that irrigation has done won ders for him this season. Thero was considerable loss of potatoes resulting from the recent cold snap and those who lost their spuds are not to be pitied, with the long beautiful autumn pro vided by The Controller of the seasons this work should all have been done. A sample of Dawes county economy was displayed at the recent term of court at Chadron. Attorney A. W. Crltes was em ployed by the county in a case of supposed murder, the defendant being an Indian of Pine Ridge Agency but who was discharg ed as not guilty. Mr. Critcs put in a claim of Sioo for attorney's fee, which was cut in two by the county commissioners. Mr. Crites sued the county for the remainder of his fees and the decision was given in his favor. The suit cast the county $200 we understaud and the full amount claimed by the plaintiff allowed.
