Clayton entered the gth grade Monday morning. Miss Blanche McDonald is employed in the Bogue store. Misses Bessie Standen and Martha Bell were high school visitors yesterday afternoon. Byron Ufford, one of the graduates last spring, and who has been working in the hay fields near Hyannis, re turned to the city last Thursday. He is now employed by the Burlington. The Northwest Nebraska Declama tory contest will be held at Crawford the evening of Dec. 1. The Teachers' association holds a convention there the same Dec. 1 and 2. The local con test here will be about one week .before the district contest. Word was received in Alliance yes terday that Mibs Ethel Roak had died at her home in Denver. Miss Roak attended school in this city last winter, She wss a sister of Miss Anna Roak, formerly of the Burlington lunch counter here. Last Fridav eveninc Mrs. D. V. Butler cave a surprise party in honor of her son, Herbert. A large number of friends were present. The evening was spent pleasantly. Alter an elabor ate luncheon wss served the young people returned to their respective home, thanking Mrs. Butler for the pleasant time they had spent. Last Friday evening the Delphian society held a meeting and elected the following officers: President, Leah Kraemer; yice-president, Izola Worley; secretary. Herbert Butler. The Del phian society consists of the members of the junior aud sophomotfe classes. The first program will bo given Fri day, October 20. An invitation is extended to all. Meeting of County Teachers, The first meeting of the Box Butte County Teachers' association will be held in HeraincfordOct 14. to which all patrons of the schools, members of school boards and every one interested in education are invited.
