Ora Philips met with a painful accident
Monday morning. He was going aftera
load of hay and the horses became fright
ened and tipped the wagon over and ran
away. Hiscollar bone, shoulder blade and
arm were broken.
Mrs. S. J. Holdridgo will be at Frohn
apfel's store in Hemingford, Oct. 6 and 7,
with the best line of millinery ever shown

It drove every living thing to seek shelter,
somewhere even to the lizards, a couple of
which we learn, crawled into a cellar that
was dry, and then loth to take chances on
an encroaching flood, crawled into some
jars of nice new sweet pickles and then
quietly drowned.

Fred Shultz brought in quite a drove of
cattle Monday for shipment.
J. C. Foster and wife made a trip to Alli
ance Saturday returning Monday.
School began Monday morning, with
Miss McDougall, of Alliance, as teacher,
and seven pupils.
Landlord Bristol is overloaded these
days and has been compelled to tnrn away
people seeking shelter and accommodation.
Ed Whetstone of the Box Butte Table,
a brother ot Mrs. J. u, tiunsaker, has
been visiting her since last Wednesday.
Mr. whetstone returned to his home yes
terday, Quite a number of broken window
lights in town as a result of last Wednes
day's hail. That's nothing you should see
the broken heads just out of town as 'a re
sult of last Wednesday's hail. P. S. These
James Sullenbergcrhus returned to Wy
oming after a sin. weeks' stay ou the farm
Miss Ava Snow returned, Saturday, af
ter a week's stay in Alliance.
Miss Emele Jacobson left, Thursday, for
Sheridan. She expects to do sewing.
Miss Lucile Wilson, one of the Alliance
"Hello" girls, was an over Sunday guest
at L.' Snow's.
Tho Joraleman family, who spent sever
al weeks among relatives on North Table,
has returned to town.
Mrs. Homrighousen's sister, who has
been visiting her for a few days, left,
Wednesday, for her homo at Clinton, la,
Miss Attie Snow, who attended the
state fair at Lincoln and afterwards visited
at Lushton for a fortnight, returned Satur
day. Miss Myrtle Noel, niece of Mr. and Mrs.
j. McLaughlin, left recently to spend the
winter abroad, we did not learn where.
Mr. McLaughlin accompanied her as far
aa Alliance.
Mrs. E. S. Gregg, who has been visiting
on the Atlantic coast for nearly three
months, returned home Wednesday. She
visited many points of interest while
gone, and was in Portsmouth while the
peace commission was in session and had
the pleasure of seeing the notable person
ages who composed that great tribu
nal. Her visit, however, was not all
fraught with pleasure, as she attended the
funeral services of a brother, while gone.
The air was filled with smoke and flame
again Monday and some verily thought that
uggleston's End ot the world had come.
Sparks from a B. & M. engine set fire to
Thomas' range and soon a great fire was
sweeping to the east consuming all of Mr,
Thomas' stacked hay, the buildings on the
old Burton and Loch places, crossed over
to T, J. Poole's meadow, burning up
stacks, shocks and windrows of hay. It
crossed the road to II. G. Furman's place,
one mils cast of town, and was consuming
the rail fences with alarming rapidity
when a large force was successful in put
ting out the flames. Another largo slice
of N. G. Poole's range went up in the
blaze, Sup't Birdsell and Mr. Boyd,
adjuster for the B. and M., were soon upon
the scene, looking over damages.
