Charles Vanoka of Table Rock was
arrested on tho charge of petty lar

ex-Governor Robert W. Furnas. With

The) board of directors of tho Bea
trice Chautauqua association held a
meeting last week and allowed out
standing claims against tbe associa

PROTESTS ON ASSESSMENT.
Union Pacific Says All Property But
Ita Own Is Valued Too Low.
LINCOLN Tho Union Pacific rail
road company, represented by.Robert
J. Clancy, assistant tax commissioner,
stood up for Nebraska, by protesting
against tho low valuation of all the
property In tho stnto except tho Union
Pacific Railroad company, nnd In tho
matter of this latter named property
tho company demanded of tho board
that Its assessment bo reduced from
said "oxccsIvo valuation and assess
ment" Tho railroad company also
"demands" of the board that It give
Jorco and effect to tho rulo of uni
formity prescribed In the constitution.
Tho protest was filed with tho secre
tary of tho board and It was signed
by Robo'rt J. Clancy, assistant tax com
missioner; Vlco President nnd Gen
eral Manager Mohlor and W. R. Kol
ley, general solicitor.
Tho protest nsserts that tho grand
assessment roll for 1905 In respect to
property other tlnn railroads is an
assemblago of under valuations, there
by doing groat wrong to tho Union
Pacific railroad and Intensifying Its
burden of taxation. It Is asserted that
real estate was valued and assessed
In 1D04 at not more than one-fifth of
70 per cent of Its actual value, so that
instead of real ostato being assessed
at 20 per cent of Its actual value It is
assossed at not to exceed 14 per cent.

articles of Incorporation with tho
stato banking board. Tho capital

Nebraska's Exports Growing.
Statistics on shipments, compiled by
tho Stato Bureau of Statistics, show
that Nebraska has exported surplus
products to tho amount of $208,110,
576.95 during the year 1904. This is
a nlncreaso of $34,261,369.95 slnco
1901 when tho last report was made
of $173,849,207.

San Diego, Cal., that his son, Ward
V., ono ot tho Bennington victims, was
very low, but still had a fighting
chance. Mr, Kennedy was ono of flvo
young men who ontorod tho naval
service from hero last February, Threo
of them aro on as many different ves
sels, while Ward Kennedy and Ches
ter Mumper, also of this city, were
assigned to tho Ill-fated Bennington.
Mr. Mumper was uninjured.
