A year ago the people elected a mayor and council to suppress Rambling and reform the city. This wns not done, Mayor Bowman bavins adopted A half way or conciliatory measure, which tolerated certain vices, if not oponly advocating them, in the belief that that Was what the public wanted. Instead they scqiii to want to either have gambling or have none, and have elected Bucclisenstein, the wide open candidate, for mayor. His reign up to .1 year ago resulted in much improvement and recouped the city finances. Gamblers were not permit ted to ply their profestion without con tributing to the coffers of tho city treas ury. The Herald has advocated a direct primary to get an expression from tho people themselves, but the election Tuesday went a step farther and carried the direct primary system to the polls and there elected the man of their choice without even having his name on the official ballot, and by such an overwhelming majority that there i3 no room for doubt as to what tho voters want, viz: A wide qpen administration, that will provide suffi cient revenue to maintain the city expenses. Tim democrats are congratulating themselves today over the election of thrco democrats for mayors, Tuesday in the three leading cities of the Unit ed States viz: Chicago, where Edward F. Dunn defeated the republican nom inee, Lincoln, where F. V. Brown . was elected and Alliance, where Buech senstein was elected. If the other two cases are like tho case here, politics was laid aside and the voting was dono for- the man. Politics was not the issue and yet tho politicians want the credit where one of (heir party suc ceeds. -".--""' .:: ..: vvv t KAILRQAD RUMBLINGS. ,.V'..'..'.'. .!.. kj .;' Mrs. C.
