Alliance Potato Dealers Handled 400,000 Bushels Their Mam moth Potato Cellars. If there is another firm anywhere within the boundaries of this conti nent who buy and sell more potatoes than Raymond & Qulvey, that firm is yet to ho heard from. Raymond & Qulvey are pioneer grocery merchants in Alliance, but make a large-sized specialty of the potato business. They maintain gieat potato cellars In Alli ance, llemingford and Mnrsland, and each fall these arc filled to their ut most enpacity, which, at the oppor tune time, arc disposed of in the eastern markets. They nlso make a specialty of northern grown seed potatoes, and ship only those of the nssorted qual ity for seed purposes. During their 11 yonrs' business career in Alllnnce, Messrs. Raymond & Qulvey have established an envi able reputntion for squnro and hon orable business dealings and never has an individual questioned their methods in a business way. The capacity of the several potato cellars is 25,000 bushels, and the reader can well Imagine the extent of their yearly dealings in this com modity. The potato crops in this section of the country are the great est In the known world, and It is rapidly becoming one of the leading industries in northwestern Nebraska. At Hay Springs, -10 miles north of Alliance, Farmer Olson raised 7,300 bushels off fifty acres, one ncre alone producing 250 bushels Another farm er named Skinner near Alliance, took 1,000 bushels from eight acres Thus View of the Alliance Pharmacy. Among those of our citizens who has enjoyed a largo 3ized slice of prosperity since coming to Alliance, is tho subject of this sketch Mr. Zbin den was born in IJaran, Switzer land December 25 lOS, and four years later came to America with his parents, who located in Bloom ington. Ill . where they continued to reside for a period of 10 years. They then moved to Fairbury, 111 , and en gaged in farming, and at the end of seven years young Zbinden decided to shift for himself. Ho went to near Ravenna, Neb., and for four years conducted a farm. He then associ- pjpfJ M ated himself with his brother, H. O., and the two became partners In gen eral merchandising, grain, lumber and coal at Sweetwater, Neb., where they also constructed a large grain elevntor. They established a branch at Alliance and J. 12. Zbinden took charge of this end of their rapidly growing business, and dealt exclu sively in Hour, grain, hay and feed. Ho has been very successful nnd last year built the Zbinden block, a view of which is shown above. Mr Zbln den is a member of but one frater nnl order, the Royal Highland ers. B. Fcndrich. The above view shows the grist mill and general store of H. Fendrlch, at Dunlnp, in Dawes county. Tho mill has a capacity of 25 barrels a day, but no effort Is mndo by the proprle toi to e.stend the patronage of the mill outside of the immediate community. The mill was built 17 yonrs ago by V Cladak, who operated It for a polled of 12 years. Five years ago Mr Fendrlch purchased tho prop erty. Mr. Fendrlch Is a nativo of Germany and wuh given birth August 17. 1805. At the ago of 10 ho came to America and located In Iowa, and for six years tilled the soil of t fertile state.
