Jno. Sauerwein has invested in one
of 11. E. Johnson's new gang disk
plows. They arc said to be something
excellent in their line.
Emery Abloy, who was assessor last
year in Nonpareil precinct, as a re
ward for good work, has been appoint
ed to fill the same position this year.

Joseph Duhon returned Sunday from
a trip to the eastern part of Nebraska.
He visited with his brother who resides
near Omaha and also with friends at
Dwight and Urainard.
Mrs. Grace E. Waisner departed for
her new homo at Arvada, Wyoming,
Wednesday. She expects to go to Sher
idan for a few clays' visit, shortly after
which she will reside on the rancli
eight miles from Arvada.
Several of the ranchmen living close
to town ure gradually abandoning
their herds and devoting themselves to
farmini? altogether. They claim that
there is much more to be made farm
ing than in live stock.

Assessor Reed made a wise selection
when ho appointed A. D. Mlllett asses
sor for Dorsey precinct and one very
acceptable to the district which he will
serve. Mr- Milletthas been a life-long
Democrat and stands splendidly with
his party.
James Moravek and son Charles were
in from Canton, Tuesday. Charles has
received the appointment of assessor
for Liberty and Snake Creek precincts,
being the only republican appointed
this year. Charles is a capable young
man and will, no doubt, give excellent
service in this position,

Jno. Kuhn went to Platte county last
week to attend the funeral of an old
friend. His son Lewis accompanied
him from Grand Island, where he is at
tending school. While gone he received
a telegram stating that the children
here had the scarletlna and ho returned
ut once, arriving here Sunday.
The address of Chancellor Andrews
before the national convention of live
stock men at Portland is full of hope
for those engaged in the cattle business.
He points to the gradual curtailment of
the ranges on the one hand and the in
crease in population on the other as
two contributing factors to increase
prices of beef. He also thinks that
better grades will be kept which will
also help prices. The meat trust has
greatly depressed prices ho thinks, but
natural conditions will prevail in the
end and prices resume their proper
level.
DUNLAP.
Miss Anthony is teaching the Katcn
school now, Miss Pflug resigned.
The dance given at Krauts January
8, was well attended and all reported a
good time.
Mr. and Mrs. Montague made a trip
to Crawford to make final proof on the
homestead of Mrs. Montague.
There will be another dance in the
Dunlap hall January 29. Come and
have a good time. Everybody invited.
Postmaster Walker of Hemingford
in company with A. B. Evans were in
Dunlap and vicinitv taking views for
Tun Alliance Herald mammoth
edition.
A pleasant part' was given by Mr.
and Mrs. Barlett last Friday evening
to a number of friends and all enjoyed
themselves in playing games, singing
and music, and after partaking of a
nice supper went home happy, awaiting
such another event.

Ed O.muti has returned from visiting
his mother in Ohio.
Miss Grace Guthrie returned to Hay
Springs last Tuesday.
L. J. Suhlll visited Hay Springs last
Tuesday and Wednesday on business.
Miss Minnie Green was thrown from
her horse and hurt quite badly, but is
recovering.
Quite a number of Luella young
peopl6 attended the dance at Mr. Wob
senburg's, on tho river, last Saturday
night.
Geo. Ross of Moomaw spent a week
visiting friends in Fremont and rela
tives at North Bend; his brother Alex
of Marple accompanied him and re
turned via Alliance.
Mrs. DeLoss Barber and Mrs. Clar
ence Mann entertained their friends at
cards Friday night. Mrs. 13. .1. Schill
won first prize and Mrs. W. 11. Newton
the consolation prize.

Charles Posvar of Lawn was town
Saturday. He drives one of the finest
teams in Bon Butte county.
Wm. Lack of Hemingford, one of the
old timers of Box Butte county, has
invested in Mnrsland real estate.
Miss Hoach of Alliance arrived in
town on No. 41 Saturday and will teach
a term of school in the i)uhon district.
Peter Allison of O. T. ranch, Sioux
county, took stock in lot No. 1, block
12, Marslaud, recently sold to a car
penter.
The many purchasers of real estate
in this place during tho past week in
dicates that the town is on the verge of
a boom.
Capt. W. M. Evans of Lawn precinct
is unuthcr who has great fnlth in the
future of Marsland and has invested in
a lot on Main street,
J. C. Bennett sold oue of his town
lots recently to a company who expect
to erect a large livery barn; We under
stand the deed was made to nineteen
lessees.
Mrs. Ed Roll, after a pleasant visit
with her many friends at this place,
left for Crawford on Saturday, She
will leave for her homo at Springhill,
Mont., in about a week.
Clayton Worley of Box Butto was in
town Saturday, having met parties at
tills place from Crawford who delivered
to Mr. Worley u bunch of cattle be
longing to W. II. Fanning.
Marsland had her first "bout" with a
petition for a saloon license last week
thcra being 33 names on the petition
which asked that Jake Hurtrauft of
Crawford might open a saloon here.
The petition was presented to the
board of commissioners who found
that there were only eight bonifide
freeholders of the precinct, while the
remaining 24 were, many of them, resi
dents of other counties or not freehold
ers in this. Tho commissioners very
wisely decided that Marsland was too
small a child to be putting on city airs
and squelched the thing
