corn from the eastern part of the statu

After the lecture on Sunday evening
Mr. and Mrs. Myers entertained Capt.
Alcors anil a number of friends at
luncheon and the evening was picas
antly spent in conversation, Mr. Alters
giving several Interesting war reminis
cences. J. It. lturli, county superintendent of
Sioux county, was in town a couple of
days last week. Ho visited our school
on Friday and was much pleased with
the work In progress. Mr. IHirk is al
so Sunday school missionary for llox

day school and gave an Interesting
talk,
The Endeavor boclety went In a body
to the depot on Sunday morning to
meet Capt. W. It. Alters of Alliance who
was billed for a lecture on. Sunday
evening. There was a ripple of excite
ment and a feeling of disappointment
when the train pulled out and no
speaker alighted. However, when the
second section rushed through a white
head appeared at a window, a hand
moved and a bit of paper ilnttcrcd in
the air, then alighted which bore the
words, "(lot on the wrong section;
will some back from Belmont." The
attendance at the lecture was good not
withstanding the terrible condition of
the roads but all felt well repaid for
coming. The lecture was fine, splen
didly delivered and so vividly pictured
that one forgot for a time that thoy
were elsewhere than In tlio Holy Land.
A terrible railroad accident happened
at this place on Monday morning at
eight o'clock. A freight train which
hud a played out engine was standing
in a cut south of town. Another freight
camu in and not seeing the standing
train hi time to prevent a collision rnn

is now at Mud Springs, Sioux county,
assisting Lou Duxstend in looking after
his sheep.
I. K. Snow of Alliance moved his cat
tle this week from the Hass brothers'
ranch. We learn that Emmet Johnson
will succeed the Bass boys in managing
Mr. Snow's stock
A good many of our ranchmen have
been losing quite a" numbpr of their
cattle of lato from some unknown cause,
whether It is from lack of feed or other
disease we know not.
Miss Myrtle Mroshar will begin a term
of four months' school In the Nikont
district on March 1. Miss Edith, her
younger sister, will attend her school
untll'Aprll 1, after which school will
begin in her home district, No. 31.
Jacob A. Johnson, one of ito.v llutte
county pioneers, but now of Uticu.
Seward county, wns in this vicinity re
newing his acquaintance with his many
friends who were glad to meet him
again. Mr. Johnson still holds his
land here and we believe from his talk
he wished lie had remained here and
may return In the near future.

Mr. Snyder of Alliance came out
Monday morning on 44 to look after his
cattle and to sec about buying some
hay.
Sherman Gehrett who has been work
ing on the section quit and went to Al
liance Monday morning to work on the
telegraph line.
Postmaster .lewett of Droken low is
ln.ii. with the intention of buying cat
tle. He is now on a trade with Mr.
Snyder for his herd.
There was an ovster sunner triven at
W. G, Wilson's last Saturday evening.
There was twenty-live in attendance

J. O. Wilson took quite sick Saturday
with neuralgia of the stomach and was
in a very critical condition for a few
