John Hughes left for Crawford on
Monday to visit his old friend, Ocorgo
Barngrovcr, who is undergoing a long
and painful illness.
Mrs. N. O. Poole is beiiind the boxes

nursing his little daughter, Fern.
Dave Colvillc, formerly a resident of

Mexico, tarried over Monday night ut
the Commercial hotel at this pluco.
Miss Clara Phelps came up from
Canton on Saturday and remained at
the Commercial until Sunday, taking
the passenger for her homo at Bel
mont. Charles Dorgan of Chadron and
James Hunter of Hunter's ranch
shipped 1,. '00 sheep from this station
on Saturday. They accompanied the
shipment to Onmliu.
A letter from Wm. ltlchurdson of
Omaha informs his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. T. Richardson, that they are
grandparents' to a little daughter which
arrived at his house recently.
Mrs. Coolldge, a sister of Mrs. Mc
Coy, cume down from Chadron on
Wednesday night. She will return to
Chadron in a few days having engaged
to clerk for Mrs. Woodard.
Kritz Hoffman had a land cuse In
court which necessitated his being at
the county seat a few days recently.
We haven't heard which come out
ahead, Fritz or the other fellow.
The Chadron Times says that "Pat
Gregg of Marsland was courting at the
county seat last week." We don't be
lieve It. Ho must have been there Cor
something else. Pat does his courting
in Marsland.
An agent for the Omaha News was
soliciting subscriptions in this place on
Tuesday, and strange to say somo who
do not take the county papcr3 to advise
them of what Is going ou in their own
county, subscribed.

Miss Km nm Shlmek of Lawn and Mr.
Winnie Keano of Glrard were married
on Tuesday at the home of the bride's
parents. Miss Shlmek, who U a nice
young lady, was prettily attired in pale
blue with white trimmings. Mr. Keano
is In the employ of the B. & M., being
section foreman at ISlrard.
We understand that Humphrey and
Eugene Kendrlck, J. D. Lack and Wm.
Hollinrtike, who were courting In
Chadron last week, were so intoxicated
by court life that they failed to wake
np when Marsland was called and were
carried ou to Hemingford. The boys
place the blame on the conductor but
then we guess what the trouble was.
The illness of Fern Suow of which
we made mention last week developed
into a serious case of diphtheria. How
ever, Dr. Hartwell of Crawford had the
case well in hand before the critical
time arrived and by using antltoxine
hypodermlcally the disease was some
what batllcd, We are glad to say that
at this time Fern is very much better
and will soon be as good as new. To
prevent the spread of the disease, antl
toxine was administered to the other
children having been exposed and it Is
hoped that no other cases will develop.

Mr. Beebe of Bridgeport, the genial
livestock and tiro insurance agent, was
in theso parts Wednesday and did quite
a landofficc business while here, insur
ing quite a large number of cattle and
horses.
We are pleased to register another
marriage that is spoken of to take
place in the near future, tho contract
ing parties being a young lady near
Malinda and a gcntloman, a friend of
ours who is now visiting in Montana
looking up a location for a ranch.
Our literary is becoming so interest
ing that wo had thirteen visitors on the
last evening. Darkey dialogues are
coming in vogue and wo hope to be
able to entertain our friends who wish
to visit our society. Come. Wo have
plenty of room and to spare this win
ter. Again wc are sorry to chronicle the
departure of one of our young lady
acquaintances, Miss Clara Phelps, who
left Canton Saturday morning via the
overland route. Conductor J. W. Bro
shar being in charge of tho United
States mail, made close connection at
Lawn with the ilyer between Lawn
and Marsland. Miss Phelps will be
missed from our midst as she was one
of our Sunday school teachers during
her stay hero. She goes to her home
at Belmont.

ter at present writing.
Mae Heath is having a vacation from
her school labors until spring.
R. II. West has been having quite a
serious time with neuralgia in his face.
Tommy Lawrence is building him u
barn with Ambrose Hadlcy as fore
man. Wm. Nye had u nice calf drowned
while going through the dip. There
were so many in the vat at the time
they kept it under until it drowned.
The party or dunce or whatever the
entertainment was at John Hays, in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. Lindcr was well
attended, a nice lunch was served and
n good time is reported.
Ladies Aid met with Mrs. M. P. Nn
son Wednesday, January til. The so
ciety was well represented. The next
place of meeting will bo with Mrs.
Heath February 4 if the weather Is
pleasant; if not pleasant, the following
Wednesday.
On the evening of February 13 the
Ladles Aid of Falrvlew will give a
Valentine social at the home of Fred
Hadlcy to dispose of some articles that
they hud prepared for a fair. A free
lunch will bo served consisting of
bread, butter, pickles, pie, cake und
coffee. Come one, come all and bring
your wife or best girl or somebody else
with you.
