Wo aro accustomed to consider Palostino only as the Promised Land of the Jowlsh race, and the scene of tho most sacred events In human his tory tho birth and burial placo, tho home, tho placo of tho crucifixion and tho resurrection of tho Redeemer. Wo forgot that it is also a Holy Land for tho adherents of another religion, who outnumber tho Christians and tho Jews combined, and aro without doubt the most numerous, tho most devout and the most fanatical of all religious believers. The Mohamme dans number not less than 400,000, 000 and perhaps 600,000,000. A largo portion of them traco their ancestry to Esau and Ishmael, as tho Jews trace theirs to Jacob, and are equally attached to tho scenes of Old Testa ment history. Tho tomb of Abraham, tho well of Jacob, tho River Jordan and the site of tho temple aro as and sacred to the one as Mohammedan sultan except Mahomet, tho precious to tho other. "You really ought to havd a modern equipment for a place of acter, instead of an old this char road of mule-drawn cars that dato back to tho flood." Hero is a deathbed story, given, as far as I can recollect, in tho words of a Roman Catholic Chaplain. Tho dying man asked his neighbor whether he thought he (the dying man) would go to Heaven.
