'Doctor Karainopoulog, one of the Crook Inspectors of nntlqullles, has ac complished some most Interesting work In the ruins of the palace ut Thebes. - According to legend, thin palace wus founded by Curiums, who lit suld to hue llrst brought the alphabet to Greece. Iu previous campaigns tlie remains of the fresco decorations of the earlier palace, 1000 to 14(H) It. C, were brought to light. This consisted large ly of n frieze of elnhorntely dressed nnd colffured womeu currying flowers, painted Jugs or Ivory boxes. This year the excavator has found some of the storerooms of tlie later palace, 1400 to 1100 IJ. C. From these there have been extracted u hundred or more big stirrup jars. They are un fortunately broken, but they cud bo put together again. A considerable number of these Jars have painted on them Inscriptions In the still undecipherable. Alycenean al phabet. The letters, or rather signs, arc of u hieroglyphic character ami are derived, but differ, from the well known and equally undecipherable Cretan prehistoric alphabet. .Scientists believe It possible that the difference of alphabet means, a differ crce of language.
