SIMS EXPRESSES WARM
TRIBUTE TO RED CROSS
"Government officials can
make no expenditures, even for
the relief of suffering nnd in
aid of our disabled heroes. In
the many urgent cases that
have not been foreseen and
provided for by law; and often
the necessurlly cumbersome ma
chinery of government depart
ments renders prompt action
difficult If not Impossible.
"Tho Red Crosa can and will
perforin these essential services
promptly und efficiently to the
extent rendered possible by pub
lic support. It has demonstrat
ed its efficiency both In the
great war nnd In peace, and de
serves the support of nil who
have the health nnd welfare of
our people nt henrr.

RED CROSS HELPS
SOLDIERS IN CAMP
Life In any military or nnvnl enmp
nt present, especially In the hospitals,
would bo considerably dull were It not
for tho Ited Cross. It Is the same ever
helping Red Cross these veteruns, sick
or well, find serving them, now, even
though two whole years have elapsed
since the war ended.
Ono of tho principal features of its
work is the entertainments it ar
ranges. Each night In every theater
or hut In camp, a movlo show Is given,
with a full vaudeville show us an add
ed attraction at least once u week.
In the hospital wards wltero the pa
tients are too 111 to leave their beds,
these shows are staged there for them.
The convalescent houses nnd huts of
tho Red Cross nro the enlisted men's
clubhouse. In them are held not onlj
the shows, but frequent parties as
well, just as was done when most of
America's young manhood was fre
quenting such places. Excursion
trips for the wounded, too, are fur
nished by the Red Cross. Athletic
equipment of almost every description
can bo bad at every camp' for the
BBklng.
The work of tho Military Relief
servlco In the Central Division at
present is confined to the five camps
In this section Great Lakes Naval
Training' Station, Camp Grant, 111.;
Ft. Des Moines, la.; Camp Custer,
Mich., and Ft. Sheridan, III.
Thousands of tho wounded, sick and
welt soldiers and sailors In these
cumps swear by the Red Cross not
uny moro atunchly, however, than
the many other thousands still In the
service and tho millions who have left
It. They have tho Red Cross to thank
for many pleasant hours and atten
tions they would not enjoy had the
organization demobilized Its nrmy of
military workers and let tho memory
of tho men still In the hospitals nnd
.amps slip frdin Its mind.
Health It the second bless
ing that we mortals are capable
of a blessing that money can
not buy. Izaak Walton.
