with his family departed for that

Miss Helen Rix, of Fullcrton, Neb.,
a former Dakota City girl, was mar
ried Inst Wednesday, June 9th, to Mr.
Win, Buntz, of Fullerton.
Geo. W. Phillips of Remsen, Iowa,
and Esther Brakhuge. of Webster, S.
D., were married by Judge S. W.
McKinlcy on Thursday of last week.
A telephone gang arrived here Sun
day evening to put the lines in shapo
that were put out of commission by
the windstorm of last Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Peasley and Mr.
and Mrs. Eli 'Paquin of Sioux City,
were over Sunday visitors in the
home of Mr and Mrs. C.-E. Doolittle,
parents of the two ladies.
Fred H. Chapelle, of Lincoln, an
employee of the Burlington and a
former resident of this county was
married Monday in SioUx City, to
Miss Hilda B. Hand, of Dunbury, In.
The Ladies Aid society of the M.
E. church will meet with Mrs. S. A.
Draise on Friday afternoon of this
week. Response to roll call will be
a scriptural verse on the subject of
"joy".
The Tribune states that Stott Neis
wanger donated $10 to the Sioux Ci
ty police fund for "cutting corners",
whatever that is. It is getting un
safe again for out-of-town autoists to
drive into Sioux City.
Elbert W. Blancett, the slayer of
Clyde Armour in the fall of 191G,
while the two were traveling over
land to California, has been senten
ced by the supreme court at Albu
querque, N. M., to Ue hanged July !).
Tony Circo, an Italian living in
the north part of town, was arrested
Monday on a peace warrant sworn
out by Emmctt Hileman. His trial
was set for Monday, June 21st. He
gave a bond of $500 for his appear
ance. Julius Quintal and family, after a
residence here of more than fifteen
years, will leave the latter part of
this week for Holyoke, Col., to reside.
We regret to see this worthy family
leave our midst, where they havo
made their home for so many yenrs.
The annual school meeting was
held in the high school building Mon
day afternoon, when Wm. P. Warner
and John H. Ream wore re-elected
as members of the school board.
The estimate of money required for
school expenses for the coming year
was placed at $8,500.
Herman Renze was down from
Hubbard Tuesday and informed us
that he had closed a deal for the D.
L.. Hellernnh hardware stock at Hub
bard. He will take the business
over this week, and is now invoicing
the stock. Mr. Renze left an order
with the Herald for a supply of busi
ness stationary.
Thomas Calley, the negro laborer
who was shot by another negro at
the Burlington round house In South
Sioux City about a month ago, was
brought hero last week from a Sioux
City hospital where he had been tak
en to have his wounds cared for.
He did not like the confinement im
posed upon him by the sheriff's force
and took French leave last Friday
and disappeared.
An airplane bound for West Point,
Nebr., to put on a flying stunt, was
iorced to land west of Dakota City,
aunuay lorenoon on nccount of en
gine trouble. The machino come up
from Omaha Saturday and put In at
the Sioux City flying field for the
night. It alighted several times
west of town and finally was forced
to cancel Its engagement at West
Point. Mechanics from Sioux City
came over Monday and finally about
5 o'clock tho plane rose gracefully
and flew to the Sioux City field.

spending the week hero with home
folks.
